A case study of a patient in Wuhan, China, suggests that the immunosuppressant tocilizumab may be an effective COVID-19 treatment for very ill patients who also have multiple myeloma and other blood cancers

    Very interesting at this early date, and it makes sense. Immunosuppressed patients are facing the double-edged sword of having less chance of a cytokine storm, but also less chance for the weakened immune system to fight the underlying virus. And, one rare lymphoma (Angioimmunoblastic T-Cell Lymphoma, or AITL) causes a cytokine storm which produces a bewildering array of auto-immune symptoms, to include pleural effusions and pneumonia-like symptoms. It would seem that this would be a very challenging case to treat. One Korean Professor on the front line of viral epidemics, has stated that re-purposing existing drugs may be the quickest method of dealing with Covid-19. This study seems to reflect that.
