Hi whitedog, How are you? You are coming down on the finish line I think and I am cheering for you! I remember counting down those days, and it seemed like ages ago now. Did you find some help around the house and with your pups?

Hi; I wore men's silk boxers when I was being radiated. Natural fabric, lots of air flow and no touching except at the waist.

I cut up two sections of a four inch mattress pad to place under each leg when I sat. It was awful (not stable enough) but the donuts hurt too danged much. This way my radiated arse was in the air with nothing pressing on it.

Some of the radiation 'crispiness' can be alleviated by aloe (but, for heavens sake, do not let it dry up). If you take sitz baths, use brewed (and cooled) yarrow tea (it helps with healing and keeps infection at bay).If you can remember to, drink aloe as well.

Ask you doc about dilator inserts to keep the passageway (your vagina) from narrowing.

Best wishes for a full recovery.

Hi whitedog. I am just 3 weeks post treatment and went thru the exact same treatment protocol you are going thru. The advice you've been given so far is right on. Eat if you can. That was a huge hurdle for me and I lost 19 pounds. Was only 124 to start so lost all my strength very fast. I'm now eating 5-6 small meals a day and starting to get some energy back. My red blood cell count just took a dive which made me anemic and super tired. The treatment is tough on your body and mind but you WILL make it through. You may want to line up some rides for weeks 4-6 as you will be sore and not feeling very good. Lots of lotions to keep your skin from breaking down as much. Don't neglect putting it on your vagina and all the way up the crack of your buttocks. The burn covers a much bigger area than I ever expected! You will power through this somehow! Best of luck. Keep in touch!!

    Hi whitedog,
Just stopping by to say hello and hope all is going well for you today! It is one more day to cross off the calender as I use to say...finding that one good thing of the day is what gets us through. Some days it was just having the sun on my face. Wishing you wellness!

Whitedog, I also had anal cancer in 2005. Can't tell you what kind. Dr. said if I was going to have the best kind to have. Had radiation and 2 chemo treatments. Radiation definitely the hard part because they scalded me and then scrubbed off the dead skin, also have to watch what you eat because will tear your system up. Happy to be your Buddy. I'm 73 so guess would make me about your age when I had. Right now I'm NED from uterine cancer. Judy
