Hugs, I am so sorry to hear your news. For some reason many people in the medical profession are still afraid that too much pain killer will make people receiving palliative and don't prescribe enough to help. Speak your team ASAP your comfort and quality of life is the most important thing they can do for you now.0May 2013

Chrissy, I'm sorry for not responding sooner. Prophylactic cranial irradiation (PCI)is a preventative radiation therapy to the head to kill cells that may have already spread there, but are unable to be seen yet with scans. PCI is used most commonly with small cell lung cancers that have responded to initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
The Phoenix area has several excellant cancer centers. I am going to Ironwood.0April 2013 -
Chrisy have they done slow radiation on your brain to stop the smaal cell from getting there yet? i start that in april 14th and my doc said it will sop it from ever getting to my brain.0March 2013

Chrissy,
If I understand your journey, then I am to assume you are EGFR+. It is hard to answer your question regarding what is next because I do not know which therapies you are/were on, and if any were targeted therapies. I also do not know your history, and history is important with adenocarcinoma. Adenocarcinoma is actually referred to as "scar carcinoma" because often patients who have it tend to have scarring from an associated history of pulmonary diseases like interstitial pneumonia, rheumatoid arthritis, sarcoidosis, etc. It is believed that adenocarcinoma results from the long-standing insult of an underlying disease. There are actually many new targeted therapies to combat EGFR signals and, I should think it is just a matter of finding the right one that works for you. If you have any questions that you feel I can help you with, do not hesitate to ask. I am always around. Good luck, Carm RN.0March 2013 -
