Thank you for writing and sharing with me. I did a lot of walking this afternoon and wanted to come home and just sit but my physical therapist came by and somehow I found some energy. The tiredness just wears me down. Have a wonderful holiday and a Happy New Year and may we find some energy in 2014.0December 2013

You are very brave and courageous . We all have times when we look at our scarred and mangled bodies and weep. I went from a DDD size to one AA and one concave. There's got to be some sense of humor there somewhere . I am still looking!
But we must remember that these bodies are only casings, not WHO we are. Funny story: right after Katrina hit, my husband decided to grow a beard and not shave until the economy down here was back on its feet. Several years later, I was working on the computer and he comes in and sits down beside me. As we talked he kept leaning a little closer and a little closer. Finally he said " well, guess I didn't do a very good job." He had shaved and all I still saw was what I always see... My husband! That's what it's all really about anyway ...the essence of the person. So always remember , you have a beautiful and very brave essence. If other people can't get past the casing to see the essence, you don't need their essence dimming yours. Shine on , sister Vampy. Hugs0June 2013 -
Thank you for sharing your courage and for sharing your wise and loving father. I am so proud of you, your father's pride must make his heart seem clothed in gossamer silk, a path lit to keep you safe. I love the family bonds you inhabit.0June 2013

Cancer is such a tricky b**ch. I have found that the only way to deal for ME, was to attack it right back. I wanted the other breast removed, so I would cut my worry of EVER getting breast cancer again, but surgeon refused, saying it wasn't necessary. Hmm, I told him he would change his song and dance, if his boob ever tried to kill him! All I knew, was I wanted it GONE as soon as possible. I had an excellent team of doctors, and I was thankful for that. I waited about 2 years before getting reconstruction. I was in no hurry. I had accepted my "new normal", and I was fine with it. Only reason I decided to go ahead with reconstruction, is I am active in running, sports, swimming etc and a prosthetic wouldn't really move well with the kinds of things I did. I'm glad I did. Also glad I NEVER have to have a mammogram on that side, EVER AGAIN. I have several pictures of my mastectomy scar, and I've debate on whether to post them to various pages. Talking about it is one thing, seeing it is entirely another. Nevertheless, I wear my scars like a badge of courage. Every survivor should in my opinion! I hope you find these postings healing, helpful, and encouraging. After all, we are in this together..0June 2013
