glad to hear last chemo treatment I pray you have tolerated it as best as could be expected....it's fall in Connecticut but still warm. My dahlias are actually in better shape now than in the summer. Nature and gardening have really helped me thru my cancer diagnosis this year and all the wonderful books I was stock piling 'for when', well 'when' happened and I was grateful for them......god bless

Sherrya, I have UPSC 1a, grade C. It is a standard treatment at M.D. Anderson in Texas to get five rounds of internal radiation and six rounds of taxol/carboplatin. I was told it was just too aggressive going with less treatment. I'd ask for the full treatment...kinda one and done...just my opinion! Best Debra

    Sherry, How are you doing?
The heart doctors are getting me in tomorrow rather than 8/12. I pray my heart can stand the surgery. Dr. Brockmeyer is merely waiting to hear from cardiology. Pulmonary checked out ok. What is new with you?

Hey Sherry a, having trouble with the internet and don't know if the last post went through, so forgive if this is a repeat. I am 1a UPSC also, grade C, poorly differentiated. Six rounds of taxol/carbo and five rounds internal radiation. Some dr.'s want to be gentle with the body, but mine wanted to hit it hard and fast for the best results and lessen the possibility of it coming back. I only wanted to have to do this ONCE so went whole hog with treatment. For me, it really wasn't too bad and had I known what and when to expect certain things it wouldn't have been that bad. Fear of the unknown is my biggest problem. I am also on CSN boards as Debrajo. You can privately email me there if you are also a member. There are several UPSC people there and a lot of experience. Let me know what you and the dr. decide, and feel free to ask me anything. Best, Debra

Hey Sherrya! I'm so glad your surgery is over and you are feeling better! For me the surgery wasn't bad(I had open heart surgery 8 weeks before the hysterectomy) so I kinda recovered from both. I can't believe you still haven't gotten the results...that would drive me crazy! I got mine back before I left the hospital(day 5). They will probably give you about four weeks to re-coupe and then start chemo if needed.which with UPSC they told me I didn't get to choose since that is always grade c. Let me know if you need anything, we UPSC sisters are special(darn it!) P.S. your garden is sooo pretty! Too hot down here in Southeast Texas! As we speak it is 88 degrees in my living room at 12:30 am....my central air went out today! It's gonna be a long night! Take care and email me privately if you want. Best, Debra

dear gardener, are those lilly's behind you or iris' I can't tell...if that is your garden then you are in the right place for healing. I garden as well and it got me thru my post surgery recovery.....I hope each day brings you to feeling better. For me, I do not miss the bleeding...although it was hard it was almost 4 months ago for me and sometimes I'm like oh yeah I had surgery when I look at my scar. everyday you will feel better I promise. go have some ice cream.

Hey Sherrya, lets see...I had the radical hysterectomy on Dec.3,2010, went home on Dec. 8th, and I started Chemo Jan. 8th. So four weeks. Since I had my chest cracked open then the full vertical cut on the belly, the worst part was getting up and down, but my mother in law died Dec 18 and I went to her visitation one night and funeral the next day, a 2 1/2 hour drive one way, so I guess I didn;t have a lot of problems. Remember, if you have to ride anywhere, like home from the hospital, have someone bring you a couple of pillows. One to sit on and one to put across your middle to keep the seat belt from hurting you. Since I had the two insicions, my husband bought me a grip-it devise. It's a long pole with grips on the end you can close up to pick up things without straining. The dr. also had me on two vegtable fiber Sennacott-S pills to keep everything moving without straining. Ask about that when you see the dr. There will be a thousand questions that you will forget to mention to the dr. Especially get the two nausia pills and some pain pills for the bad leg pain. They will start 2-3 days after chemo for most of us. Just take it slow, write the questions down and try to have someone with you at least the first couple of times. Hope this helps, Best, Debra

Hey Sherrya, The waiting is the hardest part for me...I am not a calm person. You will need the four weeks to recoup, but they told my husband right after surgery that it was very early, they got it all(?), and with UPSC they either do ALL the treatments plus radiation since the aggression was too serious to just do a little and then see if it worked. Kind of "hit it hard, hit it fast, and don't take the chance". They wouldn't even talk to me about doing a little. I know it was really what I wanted, but at the time it felt like I had NO choice in the matter! My daughter and one of my daughter-in-laws are both R.N.'s and their opinion was"one and done"! I sure don't want to have a "do over"!! Let me know if I can help...sometimes with this disease you will find that friends and family are the first ones to "abandon ship". Best, Debra

Hey Sherrya, Glad to know I could make someone smile! UPSC is Waaaaaay scary. The internet stuff is usually outdated and not too helpful. I have had to weed through all the stuff and was sure I was going to die tomorrow. I have mild depression(family related, my dad and brother were really bad) so this dx really sent me down a dark hole. Treatment is very doable if you know what to expect...I didn't. So if you need to ask questions or just talk to a "veteran" I'm sending you my email address debraj856@gmail.com See you later!
