I've had you on my mind, since our last conversation where we seemed to be talking just past each other. I'm really glad you decided to stay and hope you're getting what you need/want from WhatNext! Seeing you staying makes me smile. :-D

First, hello. Glad to "meet' you but so sorry that we're here. You have certainly been through the ringer. Sounds like that first oncologist was a nightmare. It's not cool and unreasonable - but you know all that.

I'm glad you're here. Whenever you need to vent, we definitely understand. I had/have fallopian tube cancer (the dreaded stage IV) but my scans have been clear for 18 months now after some aggressive chemo and debulking surgery. I'm still trying to get back my physical strength and it's tough but at least the cancer is behind me. For now. All my doctors remind me that it's sure to come back. Maybe they think they're preparing me for that eventuality but I just want to prove them wrong.

Anyway, I'm here if you need to chat or vent. I'm sending good wishes for your improving health and return to your physical peak.

    Hugs,
    Diann

Hi; when we are ill we don't function as well as we did or will do when we are better. If you were to reread the question about hot flashes you would see that nobody made any personal statement about you. If you grew food for 17 year, I've no doubt you can taste the difference between what you grew and what the supermarket serves up. We all do the best we can. I buy fresh berries and some fruit on sale and then freeze or dehydrate left overs or abundance. I have to have my daily berries & cherries. I can't grow them in the climate where I am at. I tried growing blueberries. I have 4 plants left and if I got a total of a single bowl of berries during the years I am likely exaggerating. So I buy them freshly and organically when they are in season & I can afford and freeze left over. I no longer have a stand up freezer so when the stuff I'vew frozen runs out, I need to buy what is available at the market freezer. And so it goes. I think you miss your garden. With rare exception, the large organic producers use hysdoponics rather than soil any more and that leaves the food even less nutritious unless it is some sort of closed system. We both know that the soil contains nutrients. I'm lucky with a backyard. I just plucked out all the herbs (except for moringa and banana which aren't bothered by the heat) and am planting melons and a native squash which enjoy the heat just as long as they get enough water. Best wishes for a complete recovery. Miracles happen every day. Frozen or fresh, I are blessed & that you have one.

First off, I LOVE the name you came up with Dr. loLafolana! It makes me smile! And, it makes me think you have an awesome sense of humor.

I read about all you have been through and my heart just breaks. And i realize how fortunate i am. I have had two oncologists and both have been fabulous. I don't have a PhD, but i HATE being talked down to, lied to, or dismissed. I can imagine those feelings are magnified for someone who sits on thesis review panels.

Can you change doctors? For me, trusting and liking my doctor are imperative. My current oncologist is primarily a researcher and professor. He only sees patients two afternoons a week. But, he has a wicked sense of humor (important to me) and I have never felt like he was trying to just rush through our visit. I see him or his Nurse Practitioner (who i also love) every 2 weeks and have for nearly 2 years ... i feel like i know them a bit on a personal level as well as professional. It makes such a huge difference to me.

I hope you can find doctors and surgeons who take the time to know you personally (at least a bit) and who can respond to you in a manner that makes you comfortable. You have to entrust your life to these individuals. In my opinion, you have to believe they care and that they have your best interests at heart!

Hello I read your story and to say it with full empathy for you. Your story sickens me and is a disgrace to the medical profession. You have been treated in such a wrong way I'm speechless for once. I'm usually ariculate but all I can say is wow! Sorry for every inhumane act of unkindness you have experienced. You are the epitome of oncology patients being treated like the modern day leppers. That being said with full commiseration, may I say your obvious strength comes through. As a runner may I add keep running toward the finish line. Keep playing your drums when you can and let some of that anger of how you have been treated produce some awesome music. Think Greg and barryboomer both musicians on this site as well as a few others and can see how it helps them. I can only carry tune if you give me a very sturdy bucket! Lol hoping today is a good day. Do what you can and keep advocating for your self.

There are also subtypes listed on this page to narrow down the type of cancer to match your dx. Also, if you can take a few minutes and fill in some details of your journey so far, it will help others as they try to answer questions for you, it also helps others as they search through the data base to find someone like themselves. Confirming your email will allow you to receive updates and notices from the site when someone answers your questions or writes on your wall. Thanks for being with us and let me know if I can help you find any information on the site.
