I looked up Dr. Nicholas Gonzalez in NY and he is referred to as a quack. So I will now look up Dr. Chabot but still waiting to hear from my surgeon's office in NY.

I am so sorry too that your husband is in denial and it makes it really hard to cry on their shoulders without upsetting them. I am also sorry that your lifelong friends have abandoned you. I have been fortunate there. Not only are my lifelong friends there for me but I have made new friends and supporters through these last months. I'm finding that people I hardly knew can be amazing with their help ( I need help with transportation to/from treatments as my husband has lost his license) and their emotional support. I wish you well. Keep in touch. Elaine

Dr. Huguet in St. Petersburg did my Whipple. He is great. I did also get a second opinion at Moffitt, Dr Malafa and I liked him also, but due to family and my comfort level with Dr. Huguet, decided to go with him. He doesn't specialize solely in Whipple's but he is one of the few in St. Pete that does do them. And yes, it was near the artery, but luckily not touching it, just very close. You've probably already heard this, but please make sure if you do have the surgery that it is performed by someone who does many of them and at a same facility. The recovery is not easy, but it helps when the team is knowledgeable of what you are going through and what is normal and what is not.

Hi Downtown! I am recovering from Whipple surgery on Feb 19th and will be going back to work on May 1st. My journey started this January when I had an ultrasound for elevated liver enzymes. At the time, the pancreas wasn't even being considered, but there was a 2 cm well mass on the head/body of pancreas. A CAT scan and then a EUS fine needle biopsy confirmed that it was a pnet. It was pretty close to the major vein/artery, but I had a great surgeon who was able to remove it all. Now just cat scans every 6 months but as the oncologist says, I'm basically cured. I hope that this gives you some strength to go through with this. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Hi downtown- I've got a similar diagnosis but tumor in the pan/ tail w/ liver mets. Regarding radiation... I know that with my diagnosis they offer an embolization using a radiation bead... For blocking the hepatic artery to liver to kill off tumors on the liver??
Sorry to 'meet' this way... Very best wishes on this difficult path!
This site is really great for support and information!

Hi Downtown!sorry to 'meet' via cancer...but glad you found this site! There are some great well- informed travelers of the cancer journey on here. My tumor is on the tail... So not the exact same scenario... However, no 2 folks have the same exact story! Are you seeing a specialist? For me, this is an absolute necessity. I hope today is a good one for you! Blessings

There are also subtypes listed on this page to narrow down the type of cancer to match your dx.

Also, if you can take a few minutes and fill in some details of your journey so far, it will help others as they try to answer questions for you, it also helps others as they search through the data base to find someone like themselves. Confirming your email will allow you to receive updates and notices from the site when someone answers your questions or writes on your wall.
