I was diagnosed with Stage 1 as well. Going into the surgery they thought I was late Stage 2 based on MRI scan. Post op stage 1 N0 M0. Praise God. Even when Stage 2 suspected, they opted for surgery first because it was well contained tumor. It's unusual from my understanding that Stage 1 doesn't need chem/radiation. I was told no chemo/radiation for me,p. Went to MD Anderson for second opinion and was told they were in agreement for Stage 1 no risk factors. If it had been a high grade tumor them i would have to have chemo/radiation. Please stay prayerful and put your trust, fears, and faith in Christ. He will give you the strength to endure this and heal you. But get a second opinion because unless you have some risk factor involved usually chemo/rad isn't needed for Stage 1 rectal cancer.
