It was so good to see your name on someone else's page!!! I am so glad your husband is still doing well!!!

I had infusion #70 of Opdivo on Monday. Can you believe it? I don't think even my oncologist can quite grasp it :) I had a scan on the 15th and all remains stable. God is so good!!!!

Hugs, my friend. I just wanted to say, "Hi!"

    Hi Kim,

Thought I would check in and see how things are going for you. I think it has been awhile since I have seen a post or response from you. Hoping and praying things are going well for your husband. And that you're holding up, too!

Wow! That is a huge decision. I know you both must be in agony over this. Maybe you could sit down with him and list the pros and cons. It makes things more clear to me if I can look at the whole situation in black and white. You sound like such a strong woman that I'll bet you will help him make the right decision. Good luck and God Bless.

KimberlynJ..You are so good to share your experience here. I am an old friend since childhood to a man whose wife has stage IV adenocarcinoma, metastasized to the spine and ribs. She has had the mass on her spine removed and is moving into living with the cancer as a chronic illness with oral medications. Her care is largely palliative. I am caretaker (mostly he takes care of ME..LOL) to my husband, now in remission from stage IV follicular Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Our friends are in the 60's, just a bit younger than us. He has turned to me for help but the two cancers are so different. My husband will probably not die of his. His wife will probably not be so fortunate. She is a marvel of courage and grace. I want to support him with understanding. I would love to get him here, on this site. She was diagnosed about 6 weeks ago after the emergency spinal surgery. Any advice you can give will be appreciated. Right now, I am just listening and letting them know I care. Thanks, Robin

I am glad appointment went well. I do know for a fact that at least in the case of my cancer, there is a great risk of the disturbed tumor spreading so it is NOT a myth. The CDC even banned using a laser to cut up the tumor for smaller incisions. However, it may not be true of your brother's cancer - doc would know. Hang in there. You are a great sister!

KimberlynJ, I remembered to ask about clinical trials for your husband! My researcher said that when there is mets to the brain, they often require the brain tumor to be addressed (radiation, surgery, chemo) before starting the trial. The reason is because MOST drugs do not cross blood/brain (something like that) line and they don't want the brain tumor not to be addressed. (There are a few drugs that DO cross the line but most don't.) She said she knows of many patients who had the brain mets addressed and who got on trials and who are still here 3 or 5 years later, doing quite well. She said they'd be glad to talk to your husband but we are in Dallas, TX and I think you aren't.

Especially since your husband is relatively young, is fighting, and is strong, she feels he has a great chance of getting in a trial after the brain tumor has been addressed. Definitely, she said, get a second opinion; preferably at a major or research hospital. She also said you might want to visit clinicaltrials.gov to see what's out there and where.

Good luck! I think you're going to have your hubby with you for years to come. I sure hope so!
