I have been diagnosed with squamous cell esophageal cancer in the mud section, T3N1MX. Started chemo weekly with daily radiation and have 1 week left if treatments. Then wait a month fir scan to show if treatments were effective and if I’m a candidate for full surgery.
I’m really scared about the surgery recovery. I had an upper left libe removed several years ago (metastatic colon cancer) and said I’d probably not do that again. How was your recovery in terms of pain, length before able to swallow again, and sny other thoughts you have.
    Thanks

Jenvivace, how are things going for you? I know you had to start chemo again and I would like to know if that is ongoing, or if you are finished with it. All the best to you!

My husband was told he had cancer; doctor did biopsy and ct scan is this tuesday( dec 30). If you dont mind me asking, did you have radiation and chemo before surgery? Doc said tumor is to big to remove and needs rad and chemo. What was your symptoms? Hope your cancer never returns. Prayers are helping me cope with this; any advice would be appreciated

Jenvivace, I got your name from Skimpy10. One more radiation treatment and I will be scheduled for the surgery. Did you have the surgery to remove your esophagus? I would be interested in your thoughts.

Jenvivace, I'd like to thank you for your post to my wall. You explained everything exactly how my husband is feeling. He's had a rough road so far, In fact just got out of a three day stay in hospital tonight. His last week of chemo ended yesterday and we have one more week of radiation. They will schedule a PET scan approx 2 weeks from last day of treatment to re-stage the cancer.

Thank you again for your post, it really helped me out.

I'm allergic to the adhesive glue too. It doesn't make any difference if it's cloth, paper, plastic, latex free, sports tape. I itch , I get bumps , and my skin falls off. Then I'm allergic to Neosporin too. Some people like us have all of the luck, don't we?

I like the answers you give and you taking the time to explain in detail. Your journey is similar to mine in a lot of ways and I share the same thoughts and feelings about EC as you do. I am 20 years senior to you but EC does not discriminate.
So many people need to hear about this decease and coming from a survivor at your age sends a message that it can happen to anyone at any time. I personally appreciate what you do for the patients and caregivers on this site. Keep up the good work!

NO apologies necessaries. I get a little too hyper sometimes.
I'm not taking chemo and radiation SO I needed to do something.
    Hoping for the best.

Thank you SO much for your detailed story. It has been a rough road for you, I am impressed with your strength and your excellent depiction. My inquiry was for my sister who now is on "What Next" and will be communicating with you. Thank you again.

I have noticed that you have mentioned that your Drs. have indicated that if Esophageal Cancer returns it will probably return to a nearby location. That is mainly true for males however my cancer returned to my overies. It probably would not have been detected if I had not developed Uterine cancer. You should probably discuss this with your PCP or gyneocologist

Thank you for your response. My sister has stage 3 esophageal cancer. She just had a feeding tube placed and begins chemo/radiation this week. Is this similar to your experience? I am looking for a bit of hope. . .

Thank you for following me. What stage was yours? If yours was early stages, I'm so happy for you that it was caught early.

Hello, My name is Brian, I was just diagnosed with Adenocarcinoma, Esophagus Cancer this week and am trying to get my head around it. (my dad, whom I had not seen in 20 years died of Adenocarcinoma, Esophagus Cancer last July) I have found that our cancers may have been due to contaminated water we had while dad was stationed (USMC) at Camp Lejeune. but right now I am more concerned with what is next for me in tests, treatments and surgery. ( I have an appt. with surgeon next week -- my Gastro doc made the appt as soon as the biopsy came back, before he called me, as he felt it was serious to get started on this quickly = thanks, BF
