Hi Saw4750 and welcome to WhatNext.com! I'm so very sorry to hear of your diagnosis but you've found a great place to ask questions, get information, and share experiences. I was stage IV at my diagnosis too and I'm still here more than five years later so please know there's still plenty of hope.

WhatNext.com is a great place for everyone, from the newly diagnosed to those of us who've been living with cancer for some time - friends and loved ones too! You can find people who've had the same cancer, surgeries, chemotherapy and experiences should you wish. It's often reassuring to know others have been through what you're facing and thrived. I also recommend the PINBOARD - there are often humorous or uplifting posts that can make your day. Definitely worth checking out.

Welcome to our WhatNext Family!! I just wanted to let you know that Stage IV OC can be beat. I was 62 when diagnosed with Stage IV OC. I was referred to a Gynecologic Oncoligist Surgeon. He did the surgery removing a 39 pound tumor, my ovaries and scraped all the cancer he could see from my intestines, urethrea, and fat pads. We started 18 months of strong chemo. My worst problem was exhaustion.... He prescribed medication that reduced nausia, but couldn't stop most food from tasting like eating a sponge. I lived on french toast and canned chicken noodle soup for month.. There were other side effects... My finger nail hurt but didn't fall off.... I lost feeling in my feet but keep them warm..... I remember when he said State IV right after surgery, My mind went to our 8 children...grandchildren....... I told God how scared I was, my fear left, and I was at peace. I then asked God to please take my hand and lead me to where He wanted me to be. Thus, here I am 12 years later hoping to show you that you can do it. Oh and now I have Great Grandchildren as well... number 10 is due this summer. You can do this ... I'll Say a prayer for you.

Hi Saw4750, welcome to WhatNext. I came to the site almost six years ago when I was diagnosed with stage IIIC ovarian cancer at the age of 66. I was totally blindsided , depressed, scared , and needed to connect with other survivors. Several WhatNexters took me under their wings and described their experiences with ovarian cancer and told me about the treatments and gave me some appreciated tips to get through the surgery and chemo ahead. Additionally, all of the community through tons of support my way, answering all of my questions and giving me inspiration through their own survival stories. Having cancer sucks and if we had a choice all of us would say “ pass”, but having to go through all of the difficulties imposed becomes a little easier when you have fellow survivors to talk to and support you. I have learned that the treatments ,although tough, are DOABLE, and also had to learn to take things “ one day at a time.” This last lesson was difficult for me but has helped immensely. I do not know wher you are on your own journey, your experiences are blank, but I hope you will take the time to look the site over, ask questions and talk to other survivors. I am sorry you have stage IV Ovarian Cancer. I was in shock for months after I was told, I was diagnosed with stage 3 C. Have you had your surgery yet? If not, be sure to have a Gynecological Oncology Surgeon perform it. They have better patient outcomes. Chemo is tough. Be sure to ask any questions. We are here for you. There are other people here with stage IV Ovarian Cancer whom you may want to reach out to them too. Wishing you more good days than not so good days.
