Hi Jan1ce. My heart goes out to you, your brother and the rest of the family. That is the most difficult thing ever, and your love for your dad through this toughest time was beautiful. Wishing you peace, healing, and countless memories of better days.0August 2014

Cancer really hits people in different ways. So many people have trouble paying for care, meds. There should be someway that a trusted person could come in every week and do the dishes up, and get the trash out of the house. One of our young members had major surgery-was sent home alone, and somehow cared for himself. If I had money or raised money, it would be for help in changing the sheets and cleaning the loo and kitchen. I don't know of any caretaker that wouldn't mind having someone over to clean the windows and stoop, or get a break.
I like the way you about the automatic stair riding thing-I hope that it sinks in. After the thing reaches the bottom or top- poor mother has to rush to be there and drag him wherever.
My daughter decided not to wake her son or her brother up, when her father needed to go to the bathroom. She slipped, he fell on top of her. My son and grandson couldn't get them up and out. they had to call 911. My X ended up spending 3 days in the hospital-and the doctors refused to let him go to a private home. He was put in a hospice facility and passed about 3 weeks later.
What if my daughter had been alone?0August 2014 -
Hi, you might enjoy some wall posts-pinboard that I did last night. meyati hound- are some of the key words.
My X passed last Sat. He thought that he was on the mekong river or at sea in a storm. It took him in 5 months. With help he managed to get to a table, sit and eat Vienna Sausages. Sometimes he talked to his family-sometimes he thought that he was talking to his Vietnamese crew-so he spoke pidgin English, Texas Cajun, French, Texan English, or Vietnamese.0August 2014 -

So sorry things are so rough right now. I do pay very close attention to all of your posts as I feel we are just steps behind your journey. When was your dad diagnosed? I pray you, your dad, and your family have peace as you travel down this road. You are an amazing daughter to your dad, being there with him every step of the way. May God hold you and your dad in his arms and give you comfort in your time of need.0August 2014

Hello Jan1ce,
I'm been following your care giving challenges via the What Next website for awhile. First of all, BRAVO for your herculean efforts in caring for your father!
If I understand the situation, you're caring for your father in southern California. Is that correct? Whether or not he is a US citizen, I strongly recommend that you connect the Public Health Social Services Office (Department) in the city and/or county that your father lives. If he is a US citizen, I also recommend contacting the local office of the US Social Security Administration to discuss potential care giving alternatives. These organizations and perhaps other local charitable groups (churches, community-based organizations, foundations and other non-profits) may be able to help you with the huge burden you've undertaken all by yourself. Best wishes and prayers for better tomorrows. Rick0July 2014 -
Pancreatic enzymes are generally for people who have had their pancreas removed as part of their treatment, or whose pancreas is not working as it should to produce digestive enzymes to help break down the food they eat.0June 2014

Jan, Good Monday morning to you. Now take a deep breath. Here is your To Do List.
1. Go to http://www.livestrong.org/we-can-help/guidebook/ This is the LIVESTRONG foundation and they have a great free guidebook that I wish I had had with my two rounds with cancer. Also check and see if your Y has some LIVESTRONG programs.
2. If you are a person of faith contact the local church of your choice. I have recieved spiritual, healing, and financial help from my congregation. My congregation has a healing ministry.
3. Since your father has a biopsy tomorrow he should be in the system and therefore he should have some paperwork. I was handed a packet of information with my first appointment.
Now that your "To Do List" is done please don't write your father off as "hospice" Stage IIb is very different from Stage IV and many here have survived Stage IV for many years.
If your father has ANY problems call 911 or make the trip to the emergency room. You should get some numbers for after hours problems at your appointment tomorrow. I have found that Drs. like to be told about even small problems AS SOON AS THEY HAPPEN. Not informing the Drs. will get you a very painful lecture
As always sending prayers your way0May 2014 -

Take a look at it to get you started on some information. You will notice at the bottom of that page 4 of our active users who have had that journey already, you may wish to contact them for their experience and wisdom. Also, I encourage you to go to the questions page now by clicking on the questions tab at the top of the page and post what is the most pressing issue you have right now. This will introduce you to the community and get you started on the help you need right now.
https://www.whatnext.com/conditions/cancer/pancreatic-cancer
There are also subtypes listed on this page to narrow down the type of cancer to match your dx.
Also, if you can take a few minutes and fill in some details of your journey so far, it will help others as they try to answer questions for you, it also helps others as they search through the data base to find someone like themselves. Confirming your email will allow you to receive updates and notices from the site when someone answers your questions or writes on your wall.
