Hi; When I reached my 'limit' in cancer tortur.. er treatments, I asked my docs for someone who had actually gotten through what they were doing to me and recovered. I was fried past crispy and totally disheartened. They said sure they had treated a lot of gals (I'd a different body part wirh a cancer than you). I pushed them and asked for phone numbers which they, of course, refused to give so I offered my phone number and contact info to ask a prior patient to call me from all the many (back in 2002) patients. I asked frequently and often showing I was not going to back down. This was the same time I found out that the radiologist had purposefully misexplained things to me and I realized I was not ever going to be the same. I also had just come out of self imposed focus shock and was popping pain meds where I had gone 8 weeks without any. I think the docs were afraid I would walk away. Eventually I got a call from a guy who was just out of treatment and too wracked with pain to say much other than that he was still alive. Next there was a dude 6 months out of treatment, still in a LOT of pain but thinking he might be well sometime and be able to comfortably use his equipment again.

This is a difficult and painful story but my point is that you simply can't quit.

Ask your doc if he has treated a lot of folks for what you have. If he says yes (they always do) you have trapped him into giving your contact info to enough of these many prior patients that one of the myriad will contact you to give support.

Hi, very new to this site, so still working my way around replying. I did discuss treatment options and after a breast MRI and 2 additional biopsies with no other areas of cancer, I had the option of mastectomy or lumpectomy if I had chemo first to shrink it. This past Friday my genetic testing results came back and I'm BRCA2 positive. It was an easy decision at that point and I'm going with a double mastectomy. The medical oncologist wants to do 3 drugs for chemo. 2 for 8 weeks, then a 3rd for 8 more, because the cells are grade 3. I'm not sure of staging yet and won't know until after surgery.
