    Hi Pal
This is Billy again, you say you are confused well check out the side effects of your medicines some can cause confusion. I don't think confusion should still be lingering on since December.

Is your overall health ok, did you have any problems before EC? What stage is your EC? I don't think you are to old for an esophagectomy (MIE) if you have no other health problems.

If it was me I would be looking for a second opinion I don't like what your current Drs. are telling or not telling you.

    Hi Pal
Billy again, you need to take charge of your diagnose and tell them what you want. Tell your Drs. to treat you just like they would there Mother, and what are the long range plans for your treatment. Why can't you have a esophagectomy? Normally stage lll can have a operation.

You need to call ahead to set up appointment with your Dr. and a Hydration session, and the Navigator for the same day. The Navigator should tell you all your options and give you guidance. You need to be seen by a esophageal specialist at a facility in town.

    ===========some things Navigator's help with======

The Nurse Navigator functions as a member of the multidisciplinary team as an advocate and educator for patients from point of entry, through diagnostic studies, diagnosis and treatment plan for cancer through survivorship.

The Nurse Navigator’s primary function is to build a relationship with patients and physicians, to coordinate a plan of care including appointments, transportation, education, provision and / or enablement of support services and representation within the multidisciplinary care environment.

This role includes conducting internal and external outreach and marketing. This position demands consistent communication and outreach with physician offices to ensure navigator utilization is maximized. The expectation of this position is that a minimum of 72 hours a pay period is devoted to outreach.

The Nurse Navigator also assumes responsibility and accountability for the management of resources to achieve efficient, high quality outcomes for each cancer patient including support for interdisciplinary and cross facility collaboration e.g. tumor boards, and referrer communication.

On an aggregate level, the Nurse Navigator will track performance of the program in line with HCA, division and facility goals (growth, quality, practice guidelines, etc.) and identify opportunities to streamline care practice, for example through development of evidence-based guidelines.

The Nurse Navigator will serve as a liaison between the patient and family, primary care physician, internal and external care providers, specialists, referrers, support network members e.g. social workers, and the wider healthcare community.

You have got to stop losing weight and eat and drink all day long or they may put in a feeding tube.

You could be suffering from a little depression also from what you have described.

What were your original symptom's that lead to the stage lll esophageal cancer diagnose? What caused you to go to the Dr.?

Thanks for your service, you are my hero for serving.
Now this monster called esophageal cancer can be beat or put in remission. You are now talking to a couple of survivors on this site.

Now tell us a little about yourself, most of use have had chemo, radiation and esophagectomy . My food did taste burnt while doing radiation but I ate it anyway. What is your stage, what type of esophagectomy did you have or going to have? What kind of symptoms did you have or what sent you to the Dr. 9 months ago? Now during the first year you will be adjusting your eating habits and your physical abilities, don't rush it enjoy it one day at a time..

OK Pal I will tell u a little about my journey diagnosed 11/2002, T3N1M0, medi-port implanted, chemo(5FU and CARBOPLATIN) 2 - 96 hour infusions administered via fanny pack, 26 radiation treatments. These treatments completely eradicated the tumor. On May 17, 2003 had a MIE minimally invasive esophagectomy. I was in the hospital 5 days. I was shopping downtown Pittsburgh with my wife on the 8th day.Went home with feeding j-tube that I used for 3 weeks to supplement my protein intake .

Today I am a proud 79 year old survivor and we want you to enjoy being a survivor and telling and helping other patients thru this journey of EC. You can do it I am sure. You are a veteran and be proud of it.

I am an esophageal cancer stage III survivor of 15 years. We created the Esophageal Cancer Education Foundation www.fightec.org in part to help patients with their journey through this disease.

Your tiredness and lack of appetite I also experienced during my chemo and radiation treatments.

We have co-authored a book called 100 Questions and Answers about Esophageal Cancer published by Jones and Bartlett and you can get at any book store.

We have also published a book called Esophagectomy Post Surgical Guide Questions & Answers published by Authorhouse that you can get at any bookstore or on our web site www.fightec.org

We have support groups that meet by conference call on a monthly basis. Patients calling in with quality of life questions and hearing how other patients have handled a specific issue. Go to www.fightec.org and click on services to get more information.

We also have a 24 hour hotline to help with quality of life questions as well. We have a You Tube Channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDkh7_H9BOnNASdmG4pdF0g . If you subscribe to this channel, you will receive notice each time we add a video about esophageal cancer to it.

    Good luck
