When I started my chemo, my hair started falling out on the 14th day after the first treatment. I had gotten my hair cut really short, but it was still falling out when I would take a shower. Got so disgusted that I took a razor and a bowl and just shaved it all off. I got tired of being covered with hair after a shower. Just wanted to warn you. Good luck with your treatment.

lillianlizamag, I also live in Orlando, Fl. and had endometrial cancer in 2011. I read your question and did some research. Free wigs, turbans, etc. are offered at the American Cancer Soc. located at 1601 W. Colonial Dr..407-843-8680 option 3. I sincerely hope this helps. You are in my prayers. By the way, I went to MDAnderson. Where do you go? I live out close to UCF. If you are close and need my help, please call..407-657-1243. My name is Patricia.

Hi, Hope the treatments are going well. I got a nice wig at the ACS, they also had a wonderful make-up class, I got a big bag of name brand items, it was so much fun.

I read about your story about starting chemo. I'd like to give you a few helpful hints, if that's ok.
My sister-in-law is a nurse and she sent me a bag to bring with me to chemo. It had Biotene (for dry Mouth), hand sanitizer, mints, hand lotion, books, plastic spoons and straws, warm socks and other things and I would take this bag to my chemo sessions so I would be comfortable while getting the infusion. I would also pack a lunch of yogurt, fruit and anything else I could manage to eat during treatments.
I bought a fleece blanket and a heating pad because I tend to get chilled during treatments. They do have blankets but they are the thin hospital ones and I felt better with a fleece covering me. The infusion machine is hooked up to a power strip, so you can plug your heating pad right into it. I also heard they make small heated blankets now that are laprobe size. It may be something to check out.
I hope I have helped you. Good luck on your treatments.
