My goshes, Manulani, you live in a foodie paradise.
A ripe pineapple is like candy. When people make veggie smoothies, a ripe pineapple makes it all palpable.
I am a papaya fanatic. If it isnt ripe, I skin it and make noodles out of it to add to a salad and if it is ripe, it makes a marvelous milkshake (I make nutmilks).
Im on the East Southern Coast and the melons are just ripening. Yum canteloupes and watermelon.
Salads always taste better with chunks of fruit in them. My mango trees wont be ready until July or August but those yellow mangoes are awfully sweet.
And the lowly banana from which on can make soft serve ice cream or cinnamon buns or puddings. Avocado is great guac too!
I sailed to Hawaii once but I did not actually get to set foot on it. An emergency forced us to turn about after we had hardly set anchor. I hear it is lovely, lol.
Hibiscus tea has a lot of vitamin C in it.
Macadamia nuts have healthy fats too. Nuts make awesomely good "cheezecakes" when blended. Ask around for something called "miracle berry" or "miracle fruit". You roll it around on your tongue for a bit and even a lemon tastes sweet for about an hour!
Heck with the junk food. You live where real food is rampant.

Hi Manulani. Welcome to What Next. As you've already experienced, there are some pretty great people here. I was diagnosed with stage IV b endometrial cancer in Aug 2012. At the time, the stats suggested I only had a 15% chance of making it to the 5 year mark, but I'm almost there and have NED (no evidence of disease). I was scared half to death of the idea of chemo before I started, but honestly, it was not as bad as I was afraid it'd be. And I even had an allergic reaction and a Taxol leak. Don't get me wrong -- I'm hoping never to have to repeat the experience. But after the first session, your fears should go down. I'm glad you found us but sorry for the circumstances that led you here. Wishing you all the best!0February 2017

Hi Manulani. I know how scary it is to have a cancer diagnosis. I just had a reoccurance and surgery. Am now looking forward to chemo again... NOT! When your life is put in front of your face and it seems so fragile its hard not to feel the weight of it all. All I can tell myself and others is to take it each day at a time. Enjoy what you have every moment and live life without regrets. Tell the people you love how much they mean to you... I have to say the last chemo treatment, I was oblivious to the world around me and just knew I had to live as I have a son. This time, I contemplated not fighting it again, did the things I should have done years ago to make sure my son would be ok without me. Then decided that I could fight this and win again. So here we go... Just know to be gentle with yourself and forgiving with others. hugs.0February 2017
