    Dear ElaineW,
My husband has been on Folfirinox for 3 months now (every 2 weeks) and he is tolerating it very well. He is 76, Stage IV. His CA 19-9 is now 45 (was 1400 four months ago). Yesterday we went to a restaurant (his last chemo was 5 days ago), came back home walking (1 mile). He walks every day and sleeps 1 or 2 hours during the day. He doesn't sleep well during the night. Has some nausea and is slowly losing his hair.
I hope that this treatment will work for your husband too!

Dear ElaineW - reading through what you have written, I have just one suggestion. You mentioned that the doctor recommended the chemo drug Folfirinox. This has also been recommended to me for possible future treatments, but my Johns Hopkins docftor indicated that - for some people - the drug can have rather harsh side effects. A possible alternative she mentioned is a new drug called Abraxane - that has less difficult side effects. It has not yet been approved by the FDA for the US, but is used fairly effectively in Canada to combat pancreatic cancer. In the US, apparently several research hospitals are conducting studies or clinical trials using Abraxane. I don't know where you live, but this might be of interest to you, so perhaps speak with the oncologist about this as a possibility. I intend to do so for my own case. Chin up! JMS

Sorry to hear of your diagnosis! Where has it traveled to beyond the pancreas? I know at first this really messes with your heart, mind, and spirit! I try to count my blessings each day to keep all of the good stuff in life from being ignored during the not so good stuff! Best wishes.....
