Hi Agnes and welcome! I'm a stage IV ovarian cancer survivor too, just a bit older than you are. I'd love to know more about your journey as you were diagnosed earlier than I was. My cancer has just recurred and I'm looking to longer term survivors for their insights and experiences.

Welcome to what.next. Folks here are great about answering questions, sharing in celebrations, and offering support when things don't go as well as hoped. I find hope in your story, myself. I was diagnosed at stage IV in January, have completed neoadjuvant and adjuvant chemo as well as had surgery. My next step is a maintenance program of targeted drug therapy indefinitely until "there's progression." Knowing you have done this for five years and are still thriving makes me think I can do it. I struggle with it never being over, so I'm looking for positives! Again,welcome.

I would be interested in hearing more about your journey.

I was diagnosed with Stage IIIC ovarian cancer in October 2013.
Since then, we have discovered that I have platinum resistant cancer. Because of my quick recurrences - one happened while I was taking a year of maintenance chemo, in the hope of getting a longer remission - we are now treating my cancer as a chronic illness as well.

I am now participating in a Phase III investigational trial. However, I am in the "standard-of-care" group, so I am receiving Topotekan which is what my doctor said was what he would treat with if I were not in a trial.

How long have you been treating as a chronic illness?

As a stage IV patient, have they been able to remove cancer from wherever it had spread?

Do you currently have tumors or nodules that are being monitored as you take your adjuvant treatment?

I know I've posed a ton of questions. If you would prefer to not answer them, I will totally understand.

Hi Agnes and welcome to WhatNext. I have a similar cancer to yours and am also stage IV. While you're a bit younger than I am, I've also been told this is a chronic illness I will fight for the rest of my days. I'm currently undergoing maintenance chemo with a PET scan net month. So far, so good.
