Hi. I have to ask since I was an rn up until 4 years ago and I had a 24 week preemie who I quit to stay home with, do you find it easier to deal with the cancer as a patient because of your experiences? I worked pediatrics med-surgery so I wasnt anywhere up to date with treatments and such. Sometimes I find it more frustrating because I realize how little I knew when I started and sometimes I think it helps at appointments to get in "clinical" mode and kind of remove myself from the equation. This is a recurrence after being cancer free for about a year, so I was more prepared this time around but wondering if other current or previous healthcare patients have had conflicting feelings because of that.0May 2014

Hi TonjaRN, Thank you for your message. My mom is starting chemo treatments next week. We are not sure what to expect. She is mostly anxious about losing her hair. We are going to the boutique to check out wigs and I am sure that will be emotional. She is not doing well now because she is in so much pain. She is scheduled to have chemo for 48 hours every 2 weeks (they are giving her a chemo pack to take home and will be visited by a nurse to disconnect). I am hoping this aggressive treatment will have her feeling better soon. Can you provide an idea on the timeline for improvements, if any?
Thank you for reaching out. Any information you want to send, I'll take it...the good and the bad. I'd rather know and prepare.
I am glad to hear that you are soon going to receive some financial help. One thing my family did for my aunt when she was going through chemo treatments is we hosted a fundraising party. Tickets were $25 (even though it was family) and we had a silent auction. All proceeds went to her medical bills.
What is next for you in your treatment time line?0May 2014 -
Husband did not do much driving since often other symptoms such as fatigue, or "chemo head" ie brain fog from the chemo. I drove him as much as possible and we never planned on him driving alone, only if at the last minute he felt up to it and only short trips.0May 2014

Tonja - Welcome to the Web Site. On here you will find many folks that are in various stages of Pancreatic Cancer (as well as other cancers). Judging by the RN - seems like you may have an advantage on many of us :>). The web site is a great place for questions, experiences, and gives you a very good idea as to what may be coming next. The web site has allowed me to vent, post ideas, ask the community, etc. I was diagnosed in July 2013 with Stage IV PC. Have had ups and downs. Although this is a horrible disease... you are not alone within the community.0May 2014

Hello and welcome, we are glad you found us.Please feel free to join in the conversations. Here is a link to our cancer dx page for your type of cancer. Take a look at it to get you started on some information. You will notice at the bottom of that page 4 of our active users who have had that journey already, you may wish to contact them for their experience and wisdom. Also, I encourage you to go to the questions page now by clicking on the questions tab at the top of the page and post what is the most pressing issue you have right now. This will introduce you to the community and get you started on the help you need right now.
https://www.whatnext.com/conditions/cancer/pancreatic-cancer
There are also subtypes listed on this page to narrow down the type of cancer to match your dx.
Also, if you can take a few minutes and fill in some details of your journey so far, it will help others as they try to answer questions for you, it also helps others as they search through the data base to find someone like themselves. Confirming your email will allow you to receive updates and notices from the site when someone answers your questions or writes on your wall.
