Michelli, saw your question and wanted to answer you here on your wall because my answer is lengthy. I was you, five years ago when I was diagnosed in Sept. 2013 with stage IIIC ovarian cancer at the age of 66. That first Christmas I was still having chemo treatments, my hair had thinned and so on Christmas Eve I had my son in-law shave me bald. So, I had a“ Bald Christmas”. my two year old granddaughter started laughing looking at her bald grandma , my mood was lifted and I actually was able to enjoy that first Cancer Christmas. March 4th, 2014 I too reached remission. Remission is a goal all survivors want to achieve but too many are denied. I congratulate you on your remission. But like any cancer survivor who reaches remission, I spent that first year and the next waiting for that other shoe to drop. I knew the statistics and the possibility of recurrence was high. Like you, I would tear up once in awhile about that “ what if”. What has helped me is finally accepting the fact that recurrence may very well happen and knowing that if it does, I will fight again like I did the first time around. All of us are changed by our experiences in life, and cancer changes us most definitely , we realize how vulnerable we are and how precious life is. So get proactive. Think of yourself as a survivor and not a victim. Accept the fact that recurrence may come and you will deal with it if and when. Work with your doctor and get regular checkups. CA 125 is a good marker for me and I get tested every three months per my request and have pelvic exams every six months. Decide if any changes need to be made concerning your diet or excercise. Get on with life and embrace what is called “ the new normal” Make plans for future adventures and enjoy this gift of remission.0December 2018

Aloha, Michelli. Welcome to WhatNext.com. I lived in Hawaii when I was a kid. We lived on the beach in Kailua but things have changed a whole lot since then!
I'm a fellow ovarian/fallopian tube survivor. I was originally diagnosed in 2013 at stage IV. The initial treatment was rough but I made it through. My life has changed a lot. Since the original diagnosis, I've had two recurrences and am currently undergoing chemo with Avastin and Topotecan. It's not what I envisioned for my life, but I'm still here and always hopeful.
Please take some time to explore this site and check out the links, resources, Pinboard, and questions pages. The information there is great. The rest of us here are also happy to connect and answer your questions about our cancer journeys and how you can navigate the changes to come.
Best of luck! Hope to hear from you soon.0August 2018 -

There are also subtypes listed on this page to narrow down the type of cancer to match your dx. Also, if you can take a few minutes and fill in some details of your journey so far, it will help others as they try to answer questions for you, it also helps others as they search through the database to find someone like themselves. Confirming your email will allow you to receive updates and notices from the site when someone answers your questions or writes on your wall.
