    Hi Deann,

Thanks for the update!! I'm so glad it went well for you. The fear before the first AC treatment was so intense for me. That's great you were able to get some helpful information here. Keep drinking a lot of water each day between treatments. After a few treatments I became very fatigued and less active or hungry. The water really helped. I wish you the best as you complete each treatment. Just focus on getting through each one individually and you'll do great.

    Please keep us posted.

Hi Deann, best of luck to you throughout your cancer treatment. I'm a 2x b/c survivor and was treated both in 2003 and 2012. I've had lumpectomy, radiation, tamoxifen, double mastectomy (21 days after second diagnosis) and my chemo was TCH, so I can let you know what my experiences were, if you want to know. I only got the "carbocraptin" (my name for it) every three weeks, which was good, becuz it made me pretty sick--felt like a BAD case of flu. I think each of us reacts to chemo and cancer treatment in general in our individual way. But two things helped me--packing a chemo bag and leaving it ready to go in the entry closet. In it, I would have my Shuffle, blanket, crackers, crosswords, Kindle, etc. Anything and everything I might want at chemo. It was always ready to go with me to chemo, which was one step to making it easier. The other thing is more personal. I am an Atheist, so religion does not comfort me. Instead, I think we all have more energy and capabilities than we come close to using--so I forced myself to adopt a positive attitude...not nexus I thought it would miraculously cure me, but because it was better for me during my recovery. And it helped a lot! Wear a funny hat over your bald head, get some crazy socks that make you smile, etc. Your treatment isn't easy, but millions of us have done it before you and you can follow us. There WILL be better days ahead for you! Good luck. Ydnar

I had BC stage 2b as well. My lumpectomy scar is totally gone but I do still have a small spot that is hard to the touch. My dr said when she removed the tumor, my body naturally filled up the void with fluid and it eventually would solidify again. It takes a while for the body to heal internally but it will. I had limited range of motion after my surgery but it’s fine now. I also had cording pretty badly and physical therapy helped. Today I still need to stretch my arm often daily but it’s tolerable.

You will make it through this!! A day at a time was my saving grace!

Hi Deann. You asked about chemo. It's been almost 10 years for me, but I remember it well. With the AC my response took on a familiar arc. Chemo and shopping high on Wednesday (fueled by the steroids), feeling OK Thursday and sliding a bit on Friday. Neulasta shot on Friday am to boost white blood cell count. Down for the count curled in bed Saturday and Sunday. On the mend and back at work on Monday. Relative normalcy on Tuesday.

For nausea, I was given Emend on Wednesday and Thursday and also sent home with Zofran. What mostly helped keep the weekend bearable was taking drugs and listening to meditation tapes, especially the parts that guided breathing and body relaxation.

I've heard that Claritin helps with the side effects of Neulasta.

I hope this in someway helps. My best to you. Lynn

Take a look at it to get you started on some information. You will notice at the bottom of that page 4 of our active users who have had that journey already, you may wish to contact them for their experience and wisdom. Also, I encourage you to go to the questions page now by clicking on the questions tab at the top of the page and post what is the most pressing issue you have right now. This will introduce you to the community and get you started on the help you need right now.

There are also subtypes listed on this page to narrow down the type of cancer to match your dx. Also, if you can take a few minutes and fill in some details of your journey so far, it will help others as they try to answer questions for you, it also helps others as they search through the database to find someone like themselves.
