Hi Darryl1
I was wondering of I could ask you a few questions? They are a bit personal so can you email me? phage1@sbcglobal.net

Darryl1,
Thank you for sharing all your experiences! I remembered this article on "Scanxiety" and thought of what you are going through with all the tests and waiting. Perhaps you will find it helpful.

Just thought of something regarding the Zytiga issue. I hope you realize that each of the approved treatments for cRMPC are all approved based on their ability to improve survival, not cure the disease. The fact that you got a year from Zytiga and I got a month just proves the statement that no two of us is exactly alike. If your Husband is going to do docetaxel (Taxotere) you can read my posts from May 2012. I kept a daily diary of the first round and a weekly one after that. My experience was a very good one. My PSA went down and the side effects were slight. Wishing you the best.

With regards to pain, you have to find what works for him. There are pain-management doctors who do specialize in pain management. The next thing is to get ahead of it. When he feels the pain starting up you have to take the heavy duty stuff right a way and not wait until it gets up in the 6-8 range. Once it gets going it seems like the pain level rises exponentially and when that has happen to me I had to go to the hospital and take the needle in the arm. The main thing is to have something at home which will stop that fast climb to 8-9. and don't hesitate to take the drugs. I always felt like I could handle the pain and that is when I would end up in the hospital. You much find some combination which works for Darryl. In my case it is 3 Advil and I ibuprofen and if that does not slow things down then it is straight to the Delatin-w/morphine. I started out at 2mg. and then that didn't do much. Now I hit it with 4 x 2mg = 8mg right out of the box and that has helped a great deal and kept me out of the hospital. The main thing is to find some combination which will slow it down and stop it from going ballistic and you have to hit it as soon as you feel it coming on. I hope this is of some help to you. Again, a pain doctor is what he needs. All my best and I hope the weekend brings him some relief. Michael0November 2013

Glad you found this site. There a lot of good, first hand information here from those who have suffered from this despicable disease. For my self I have taken time to list what I have gone through for the past 11 years. I make mistakes along the way and hope that those reading what I have been through will be encourage to not make the same and know that many others are suffering just like yourself. The two things I recommend more strongly are 1st; seek a second opinion as we are all individuals and we all react differently to the various treatments offered; second, kept a positive attitude ALL the time, it will serve you well and many times give you the strength to raise yourself up to the next step. Wishing you all the best and go with your gut. Michael0November 2013

There are also subtypes listed on this page to narrow down the type of cancer to match your dx.
Also, if you can take a few minutes and fill in some details of your journey so far, it will help others as they try to answer questions for you, it also helps others as they search through the data base to find someone like themselves. Confirming your email will allow you to receive updates and notices from the site when someone answers your questions or writes on your wall.
