I am an esophageal cancer stage III survivor of 20 years. I have been through Chemo, radiation and surgery. We created the Esophageal Cancer Education Foundation (ECEF) www.fightec.org in part to help patients with their journey through this disease.
We have co-authored a book called 100 Questions and Answers about Esophageal Cancer published by Jones and Bartlett and you can get it at any book store.
We have also published a book called Esophagectomy Post Surgical Guide Questions & Answers published by Authorhouse that you can get at any bookstore or on our web site www.fightec.org
We have support groups that meet by conference call on a monthly basis. Patients calling in with quality of life questions and hearing how other patients have handled a specific issue. Calls are in the evening at 8:00PM (EDT).We have two Thoracic surgeons that attend each meeting Go to https://fightec.org/services/ get more information. You can send me an email at bart@fightec.org.
We also have a conference call support group for recurrence and stage IV patients. This group meets on a monthly basis and we have a medical oncologist that joins each call. If you are interested please send an email to bart@figtec.org
We also have a 24hour hotline to help with quality of life questions as well. The number is on our web sitehttps://fightec.org/services/
We have a You Tube Channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDkh7_H9BOnNASdmG4pdF0g . If you subscribe to this channel, you will receive notice each time we add a video about esophageal cancer to it.
We look forward to hearing from you
Take care and stay safe.

Hi, I read that you are on this site, or at least they gave notice of you. I know how you must be terrified right now, and I want to share with you that 10 years ago, I also was terrified. Late stage ovarian cancer...surgery...chemo....and on and on for 10 years. I am a living testimonial that you can live with this. I live here in Aurora, and if you would like to talk anytime, just let me know. I am doing great, and lead a very normal life. God bless you. Kathleen0February 2015

This is my third bout with cancer. I started with endometrial, then breast then, and now small bowel cancer. My nuclear family has "lynch syndrome." (generational cancer cause by a disruption on the cancer DNA). Presently, The prestigious NYC hospital did not give me a CT scan for 9 months. They saw a mass and discharged me. I almost died. I went to the City Hospital where they removed a malignant tumor the sized of a medium sized apple. It had metastasized throughout my digestive system. Because of my age (71 at the time) , the prestigious hospital discharged me. Not to treat the elderly is, to my belief, a new policy. Please copy the following web address and place it in your browser. https://www.yahoo.com/health/the-medical-tests-people-over-65-dont-need-95206481042.html
I am posting a letter to you that a friend sent to me. Medical care for seniors will be curtailed in the worst way. (budget cuts) I told people that the FEDS were running out of social security money and they were going to find a way to reduce the rolls by letting the elderly die. I said this a year ago when I could not believe the most prestigious hospital in NYC would discharge me with cancer telling me I had irritable bowel syndrome. Just to appease me. . Yes by letting seniors citizen die the meds and government will save money. (less elderly less SSI payments) The article from JAMA is on the website in the letter: It will be by age that you get certain tests. Even when seriously ill. ( a foul budget cut)
PLEASE READ THIS LETTER A FRIEND SENT TO ME IT EXPLAINS WHY Mt. Sinai let me neglected me, it was because of my age that they did nothing.
Letter:
Just ran across the following online. New Policy
https://www.yahoo.com/health/the-medical-tests-people-over-65-dont-need-95206481042.html
It states that some feel it unnecessary to do tests for those over 65.
We paid the Medicare tax for years only to be told once we're eligible that we are too old to get medical tests and treatments because of our "short life span" or that we may die of other causes!!! And that's probably why Mt Sinai didn't give you the small bowel CT Scan that would have found the tumor in time for successful treatment.
People live productive lives for over 100 years nowadays.
Hell, this is just another form of US genocide while our tax dollars are spent overseas preventing foreign genocide.
Treatment will now be based on age and life expectancy!! Especially if you’re on a plan or Medicaid.0August 2014 -

any news on different genetic syndromes that link unrelated cancers together without being Cowden's or BRCA1 &2? I was diagnosed with breast, kidney, and thyroid cancer at age 39, and so far nothing genetic can give me a reason why...https://www.youcaring.com/medical-fundraiser/the-face-of-cancer/1288720February 2014
