Hi Amidala. I am 64 with similar diagnosis as yours, diagnosed in March. I am doing my research and interviewing surgeons and plastic surgeons. There is lots to think about. My worry is also insurance and soon to be under Medicare. Should I do a mastectomy now (too small breasted for a lumpectomy second time)? I decline implants for health scare. I hope to find some guidance from this web site. Good luck to you and your choices. I am in southern California.0May 2014

Hi Amidala, I'm Karen in Riverside, ca 92509. feel free to ask any question on this site. There are lots of great people who have/are going through the same thing and feelings you are. I am/was DCIS, they tried to talk me into partial, lumpectomy, follow with radiation and maybe chemo depending on sentinel nod. I told my surgeon, no, take them both off, with concurrent immediate reconstruction using my nipples, areola, and skin. I'm in Riverside, CA 92509, 68 years old, and finally got a dr from 2nd referral to plastic surgeon who is from Loma Linda Breast Cancer Center. My onc told me he'd see me for the rest of his life or the rest of my life before I had surgery.I had dermagraft and expanders put in immediately at time of surgery. Doing great. You can ask me anything or anyone on this site who has been through it. I was diagnosed in NOV/DEC and had surgery March 26, 2014. Read, knowledge is power and this is the most informative site to see what works for us.OBTW, Post op appt with ONC, he said, "You''re clear/cancer free, I don't need to see you for a year, no hormone blockade or radiation" and City of Hope has a treatment with surgery and a single dose radiation on invasive breast cancer site as soon as they remove it. Check it out, breast cancer center0April 2014
