Oops. I am sorry. I keep thinking you have already had surgery, but you are doing your chemo, now, pre-surgery. However, I still think you might get a little digestive relief with the low residue foods.

Hi, Virginiarose. I, too, live alone and it makes it harder sometimes. Then, sometimes, I am glad to be alone. With your dx and your journey, it is good to have this outlet and resource. At least, that is how I feel.

If there a local ministry for care assistance in errands, checking in, taking you to appointments, etc., you might consider asking to be on their list. At my church, these folks do not expect to be involved in your journey, they just want to help out where they can. At my church, you do not have to be a member to receive this ministry.

As to foods when the abdomen is all stressed, I found that the low residue foods are very welcomed. After the surgery, I went through the phase of eating that which I could not during recovery, and, now, I have gone back, mostly, to low residue foods as a choice. Less "stomach" upset and less pain in processing. It is your choice, so, that is nice when you do not always get a choice.

I hope all goes well for you. Keep posting.

Hello Virginia. A dear friend of mine was diagnosed with GIST (very early stage). I did a lot of research for her. It is extremely important to work with a doctor specialising in GIST. If there isn't any around, you can have one to consult you by phone or mail. Some of the better ones do it. GIST is one of the most, if not the most, treatable cancers today and new drugs are coming. You can get good info here http://www.gistsupport.org/. They have a list of doctors there from all over the world.

My best friend quit using the patch. She tried quiting numerous times - quit cold turkey for a few months, tried getting hypnotized, some magnetic band she wore around her wrist, it took a few attempts with the patch, but, she hasn't smoked in over a year now. You know how bad it is for your health and how important it is going forward to lead a healthy life. So summon up all your determination, willpower and discipline and like Nike says - Just Do It ! ! ! Best of luck to you ! ! !

Hello and welcome, we are glad you found us. Please feel free to join in the conversations. Here is a link to our cancer dx page for your type of cancer. Take a look at it to get you started on some information. You will notice at the bottom of that page 4 of our active users who have had that journey already, you may wish to contact them for their experience and wisdom. Also, I encourage you to go to the questions page now by clicking on the questions tab at the top of the page and post what is the most pressing issue you have right now. This will introduce you to the community and get you started on the help you need right now.

    https://www.whatnext.com/conditions/cancer/stomach-cancer

There are also subtypes listed on this page to narrow down the type of cancer to match your dx.

Also, if you can take a few minutes and fill in some details of your journey so far, it will help others as they try to answer questions for you, it also helps others as they search through the data base to find someone like themselves. Confirming your email will allow you to receive updates and notices from the site when someone answers your questions or writes on your wall.

Thanks for being with us and let me know if I can help you find any information on the site. After you have an opportunity to look the site over and see what great things there are here, we encourage you to invite your friends, family or anyone you know that may be helped by the connections on WhatNext to join the site also.
