Something funny. I was sick and the neighbors sort of took care of my kids a lot. My daughter spent most of her time with Korean navy wives, and my son with Japanese wives from the APA.. My husband returned from 'Nam. We went out to a Chinese restaurant. We asked for chopsticks, and we were used to the servers, American patrons all look at us, while we ate. A cook said- Velly funny famiry-- Daddy, Vietnamese, rittle girl Kolean, boy Japanese and Momma Chinese. The rest of the staff said-- velly funny- How does Vietnamese daddy have Japanese and Kolean children, and Chinese wife. We all held our chopsticks differently.0April 2015

Hi, a triceps extension, where you stand or sit, is one of the best exercises to put compression on your neck and shoulders if you start having epidemically on the neck from your lymph glands are messed with. I hope that you don't need to go that far in treatment.0March 2015

Hi Slugcoach. Welcome to What Next. There are lots of great people here. I see you have some questions -- if you repost them using the question tab above, you'll likely get a bunch of good suggestions. Our network is good @ lending a helping hand. When I was first diagnosed, I told my boss, as I knew I'd have to take some time off. I was fortunate -- I was able to work through treatment, minus recovery from surgery & chemo days. I only missed 2 other days, but my side effects were manageable; unfortunately, that is not true for everyone. I didn't hide my diagnosis at work, but I didn't set out to tell people -- if they'd ask, I'd tell them. I hope some of the info from my story is helpful to you. I'm glad you found us but sorry for the circumstances that led you here. Wishing you the best.0February 2015

Barry is a great and smart person. he's helped me a lot. our dietary advice is opposite of each other. Different cancers and where a cancer is creates a need for different diets. You can go to GregP- and see how much weight he lost. Nobody talked to him, and he mostly eats mashed potatoes and gravy, etc.
My doctor told me that many patients win the fight with head-throat cancer, but loose too much weight and die from starvation.
If you had female cancer, beef, dairy products would be the worst thing you could eat, because beef causes the body to make more estrogen. Somehow that doesn't seem to be a consideration for you. I'm female, and it's not a factor for me.
I have a bad stomach for most of my life IBS-D. military and civilian would tell me to eat fish and chicken. One day, I told them that stupid chicken was so dry and was heavy on my stomach, Beef- rare beef was easier to digest. That GI smiled, and said that I'd survive. I'd recover. I wouldn't be anemic. He said that women have it in their heads that chicken is better-and the dietitians are looking at over all-not specific. Beef- rare beef is easier to digest. The enzymes are similar to human, which makes it easier to be absorbed into the body, and stop the body from cannibalizing itself.
After that talk-my husband was often deployed and went places-and then trouble at school for my kids, money, bad neighbors, etc set me off. I'd go in- be assigned a doctor. tell them that I was a beef eater, They'd fine tune my diet, try new meds for the pain-tell me to walk -in anytime. I've been scoped. Sometimes a nurse or Sgt. said, "Beef?" and the doctor explained that men have less IBS problems because they eat beef. Woman have more problems because they won't eat beef. They've always asked me if I had my juice in my steak or burgers. I told them that i had blood dripping from mine. They got really big smiles.
At the meeting the other week, one woman said that she refused to eat that way, even though radiation told her to eat 3 eggs a day, because she didn't want her cholesterol to go up, etc.
My opinion is that if you starve to death-you don't need to worry about cholesterol, losing weight-whatever. I also like the quality of life caused by having enough iron in my blood. I've had people say that I might die from something horrible like E coli, but I could also die from listeria from a vege or a melon-then if they don't have porta-potties for field workers or deer, etc get in a field- you can still catch E coli, salmonella, etc. So, I'm concentrating on having quality of life-I'm in remission.
Anyway, Barry is correct about 99% of the time. He worked with cancer patients, and is very knowledgeable for most cancers. Like I said, he helped me, but I think that oncologists are giving a hard look at the mortality rates, and are listening to gastroenterologists about this.0March 2015 -
