Hello Sandpiper, I am so sorry I didn't see your message about Jim's passing until just now. I was on a break for awhile, and almost immediately when I came back I stopped receiving emails from WhatNext...Greg is looking into the problem. There is absolutely nothing that anyone can say to make you feel any better about your loss. Please accept my condolences, and I know for sure after nearly 50 years of marriage there will be many fond memories and pictures for you to reflect upon. We all are given 3 ideals to share with each other... faith, hope, and love. I am sure you and Jim shared many days, weeks, months, and years of all 3 ideals, non stronger than the other. I feel that I have known you and Jim for a very long time, and not just the time we spent on WhatNext. Once again...please accept my apology for not reaching out to you sooner, and once again...accept my condolences.

    Hi Sandpiper,
Thanks for the kind thought. Yes, Neulasta shots are helping my wife to improve her white cell and platelets counts enough to continue her chemo treatments. Rick

Hi Chris.. We're still here, just a bit overwhelmed at the moment. With everything going on, my son in law, father of our 2 grandsons, 5 and 7 months, decided at 34 to join the Army. I'm floored. Literally stunned into silence.

Bob is doing real well after his 3rd 5FU

    xo to you and Jim

You have to take a lot of these but check this out. Dr. Gonzalez in NYC uses this.

One more thing: My husband is a 3.5 year survivor and the doctor is for a dear friend of ours in L.A. who is now stage 4 after a Whipple. My goal, after my husband's survival is to help all those who reach out to me.

Thank you for attempting to send you email...The moderator redacted it...mine is greatlife@gmail.com. I don't think it will get through without being redacted though. What do you think about placing your doctor's name on my wall?

Sandpiper, my husband also has pancreatic cancer, though he was diagnosed stage IV in July 2011; the cancer having spread to his liver - inoperable. He has had many different chemo treatments and continues fighting the good fight. He's not much for going onto social sites either so I am the one who trolls the internet looking for information. I invite you to visit his Caring Bridge to read about his journey so far. http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/carlplourde
I encourage you to start a page for your husband there. It's a great way to keep family and friends up to date on how things are going, allows them to leave messages of support and encouragement, and it helps keep track of treatments.
Thoughts and prayers for you both.

Hello and welcome, we are glad you found us. Please feel free to join in the conversations. Here is a link to our cancer dx page for your type of cancer. Take a look at it to get you started on some information. You will notice at the bottom of that page 4 of our active users who have had that journey already, you may wish to contact them for their experience and wisdom. Also, I encourage you to go to the questions page now by clicking on the questions tab at the top of the page and post what is the most pressing issue you have right now. This will introduce you to the community and get you started on the help you need right now.

    https://www.whatnext.com/conditions/cancer/pancreatic-cancer

There are also subtypes listed on this page to narrow down the type of cancer to match your dx.

Also, if you can take a few minutes and fill in some details of your journey so far, it will help others as they try to answer questions for you, it also helps others as they search through the data base to find someone like themselves. Confirming your email will allow you to receive updates and notices from the site when someone answers your questions or writes on your wall.

Thanks for being with us and let me know if I can help you find any information on the site. After you have an opportunity to look the site over and see what great things there are here, we encourage you to invite your friends, family or anyone you know that may be helped by the connections on WhatNext to join the site also. Just click this link to invite them to join. http://www.whatnext.com/recruit-a-friend

Hi sandpiper, Welcome to WhatNext. Your husband was just diagnosed about one month ago. When you feel up to it write some more as you learn about his diagnosis, his treatments, whether therer will be surgery or not. There is no need for you and your husband to take this journey by yourselves. There are so many of us on WhatNext who have been through this ourselves. All of us are eager to reach out and offer our support. I myself am a 13yr., stage IV, pancreatic cancer survivor. When your husband feels up to it, have him write what he is feeling about having to deal with pancreatic cancer. I know the diagnosis is not always the best, but it can be beat. I did an interview with Greg, who is the manager of WhatNext. Here is the link:

My best to you, and once again...welcome to WhatNext,
    Russ

Sandpiper - You've come to a very good web site to discuss the cancer. Many here are in various stages/treatments of their cancer and can discuss the cancer based on their experiences. So the big thing is to ask away. I will tell you that one of the best decisions I made was about the port-a-cath and the doctor may discuss that with you. Welcome to the web site.

Hello Sandpiper, Sorry to hear about your husband's diagnosis. As a caregiver, this site has helped me a lot since my wife's (65) diagnosis of stage IV pancreatic cancer last August. For example, after studying information about the stages of pancreatic cancer and related treatment options from highly-respected websites including: www.medlineplus.gov, http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/pdq/treatment/pancreatic/Patient/page1, http://www.mayoclinic.org/, http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/, http://www.webmd.com/ and others, I have found the experiences shared by participants on this site helps me to understand the treatment options and their related challenges. Also, it's helped us prepare with meetings with our oncologist and others. Ultimately, learning from others on this site is helping my wife and me to make informed decisions as we continue the journey forward. Best wishes to both of you. Rick
