I only had an ileostomy for 6 months, but I also had some adventures with it....hint, don't eat spaghetti sauce right before you are due to change your seal :). I really liked the Hollister seals, as they were smaller & more comfortable, but sadly, their adhesive was lacking adhesiveness, leading to more than one unhappy incident, so I ended up with Convatec, which worked quite well. A couple of helpful tips... I used a foam tape made by Nexcare, that you can find in the supermarket or drugstore, to seal the edges if I was going swimming, or wanted some extra protection. I was told is that you have to be kind of religious about changing the seal...it was every three days for me, just like clockwork. And I had squirt bottles in my bathrooms & purse, so that I could just rinse out the bag & edge, rather than having to wipe everything out. Also, that liquid stuff that goes in the bag really does help with the odor. I was blessed with a nurse friend who does a lot of ostomy care & she gave me a lot of tips, so I really didn't have a lot of difficulty. If you are really having a lot of problems, see if there is someone at your hospital, or possibly an ostomy group who can help you out. I know it sucks, but given the alternative...Good luck... and am available if you need to chat.

Please feel free to join in the conversations. Here is a link to our cancer dx page for your type of cancer. Take a look at it to get you started on some information. You will notice at the bottom of that page 4 of our active users who have had that journey already, you may wish to contact them for their experience and wisdom. Also, I encourage you to go to the questions page now by clicking on the questions tab at the top of the page and post what is the most pressing issue you have right now. This will introduce you to the community and get you started on the help you need right now.

There are also subtypes listed on this page to narrow down the type of cancer to match your dx.

Also, if you can take a few minutes and fill in some details of your journey so far, it will help others as they try to answer questions for you, it also helps others as they search through the data base to find someone like themselves. Confirming your email will allow you to receive updates and notices from the site when someone answers your questions or writes on your wall.

To respond to someone's comment on your page here, just click on the comment link that is under the post. Then a box will pop up that allows you to write/type in that box. That's it. Another way is to click on the questions link at the top of this or any page and look through the questions. You can talk to someone by clicking on the answer/comment links on those too. That's all there is to it. Let me know if you need some help. Happy to help!
    Hope you're doing well.
