I get you-- just take the good from Barry, and ignore the rest. He's holding onto his diet like some hold onto a Bible and their faith in God.
Because of my stomach, the only fruit I eat is an avocado once or twice a year. No apples, peaches, etc for about 10 years. About 6 years ago, I tried to eat an apple, and I began cramping after 3 bites. I bit it, then set it aside after 3 bites to see if it made me sick. About an hour later, I threw the apple out because I got bad cramps, and then later diarrhea.
I'll eat a few spoonfuls of green beans or peas once every few months. For some reason I can eat a tomato slice on a hamburger, and a few teaspoons of chopped tomato about once a week. My grandson has made several smoothies for me, and all I did was get so sick, and hurt so much.
Can you imagine being like I am, and having doctors, nurses, counselors, people at support groups tell me specifically to eat the indigestible? It's a fine line between saying, "Ja,ja" but not getting it on my chart that I'm complying. If they get too bossy, I just leave. Sometimes I go and they have the Barry food out. They say help yourself. I say, "No thank you, I ate before I came here." If they get obnoxious, I tell them that the food will put me in the ER. Talk about the Paleo diet---meat, potatoes, rice.
Nonnie, I'm just glad that I can eat. I'm so blessed that I have a family that understands this. As children they had to find a neighbor to take me to the military ER. I'd try to eat a little fruit -vege each day- and then after several months- my stomach seemed to collapse on me. So eat what you can- eat what you can afford-and you won't get any argument from me.
