Hi , I am a newly diagnosed colon Cancer pt. I have had a pretty crazy ride already but manage to deal with things the best I can. what type chemo do you receive? I am on a 3 day schedule every other week....have been having a lot of trouble with my WBC so have been delayed for a few weeks, now receiving some sort of shot on my off weeks to help my blood count. Having a lot of trouble with a nasty taste in my mouth when they flush my port, tastes like a mouthful of cotton drenched in peroxide or something nasty and then I can't drink anything because everything taste like that, do you have any symptoms like that? Also having trouble with my port itching like crazy.....I realize these are very minor problems compared to some but they are driving me crazy ! Any feedback would be greatly appreciated0May 2013

No the port does not hurt. Mine seems to be alittle sensitive at times for no apparent reason and I am so glad that I have it. Its less invasive especially since I wear chemo home with a pump for 3 days.0June 2013

How did you do today? First one under your belt (almost) - no problem! First one is most nerve-wracking because you don't know what to expect. You did it! Now just count down until you get the pump unplugged (hated that thing!!!). Drink, drink, drink. Let us know how you did!0May 2013

Our journey sounds very similar....and I am cancer-free today, 2 years after my diagnosis.
Fortunately, this chemo regimen is not one of the horrible ones. It's not pleasant, but you won't be lying in bed for 6 months. I worked, had a fantastic social life on my good days and dealt with the bad days the best I could.
Yes, I do have long-term possibly permanent problems due to the side effects, but it was all a small price to pay to have 40+ more years with my beautiful family and amazing friends. I'm still trying to get used to the "new" me, but I am a better person, friend, mother, wife and colleague. Much more understanding and appreciative of everything.
Let me know how I can help you. I've texted with others and would be happy to help you.
Stay strong and optimistic. You are going to kick this cancer's a$$!0May 2013 -
