    Katie,
Welcome! You are in the right place. Take hope, I had pancreatic cancer in April of 2004, had the Whipple procedure, 6 months of 24/7 5FU chemo ( 3 weeks on, 1 week off ) and so far I have beat it. My onc says now I have less chance of a recurrence than someone that has never had it. It's scary but your Mom is young enough to fight and beat this. If you don't like her docs, go somewhere else, second opinions are great. My second opinin was at Vanderbilt in Nashville so experience is key. We will pray for you and your Mom.
If you have any questions, I pretty much am on a computer several hours each day.
Again, Welcome and Best of Luck and answered prayers!
    Rick

Hi Katie. Welcome to What Next. There are a lot of really great people here. If you have any questions, you'll see a question tab at the top of the page. If you post there, the entire network will be able to view your question, and someone is likely to pop up w/some help shortly. As you've already found out from other posts to your wall, not only are there patients & survivors here but also family and caregivers. I hope you find this site as helpful & supportive as I have. I wish you and your mom all the best.

Hi Katie, Welcome and like pancrease54 I too am a pancreatic cancer survivor of 12 yrs now. Had he same regiment of treatment 24/7 5fu 5 weeks straight, and non-stop. Had radiation dring the same 5 weeks. Then we went with Gemzar (3wks on 1wk off) for 9wks. Rick makes a very good point about your mother being so young. She needs to fight with a passion everything that this disease tries to do to her. When they told me the statistics of survival, I told them: "count me in. I don't care what the numbers are just count me in." This is the mentality that one requires to fight this disease. She can make...I know she can make it!
    Best regards,
    Russ
