Hi Ranee, I hope they caught the cancer early for your husband. I believe he will be fine if they did. Mine unfortunately has been stage 4. I take things one day at a time for me, and thank the Lord for each day I'm here. I have been almost a year and six months of dealing with this illness. I thought two days ago it was time my time, but the good Lord has His reasons.
I hope your husband gets well soon. He'll be in my prayers too.

I will be cancer free for 5 years the end of March...my drs diagnosed my cancer from severe acid reflux for many, many years. I did drink on a regular basis but didn't consider myself an alcholic...have only had one drink since I was diagnosed. Unfortunately, the smoking, is a totally different story. I quit for a long time and definitely could not smoke going through treatments and surgery. However, being a smoker for almost 40 years, and living in an environment of family members all with some type of addiction, along with my mother having alzhiemers, I have started back again, strictly in the closet, less than 10 per day...not proud of it, but have. Anyone relate and maybe could give me some advice?

Good morning . I'm 49 years old with squamous cell EC (20 cm mid esophagus ) I did chemo/ rad for 6 weeks - ONLY side effects
I had was skin burn on chest area . Didn't even lose any hair . Having Esophagus removed 1/9 . My SUV (size in medical lingo ) was 26 and shrunk to 4. I feel really good which makes waiting for the surgery even harder . I got 3 opinions from sloan Kettering , uhc (chicago) and my hospital close to home . They all recomended the same surgery , all came highly recomended so I'm choosing to stay close to home . My family , animals :) and my bed . Attitude is everything and support as well . My CANCER is due to excessive drinking and smoking (sober 4 years and really struggling with quitting smoking ) so there's a guilt cloud like I caused this . I fought tooth and nail and didn't need a feeding tube . Refused to lose weight - ate 3200 calories a day plus 120 g fiber . I wish you nothing but the best , stay off the internet as everyone has a better cure . Mr dr says my age is a plus as 49 is young . Should be a plus for recovery as I cannot wait to get back to work .

Hello and welcome, we are happy to have you with us. Please feel free to join in the conversations. Here is a link to our cancer dx page for your type of cancer. Take a look at it to get you started on some information. You will notice at the bottom of that page 4 of our active users who have had that journey already, you may wish to contact them for their experience and wisdom. Also, I encourage you to go to the questions page now by clicking on the questions tab at the top of the page and post what is the most pressing issue you have right now. This will introduce you to the community and get you started on the help you need right now.

    https://www.whatnext.com/conditions/cancer/esophagus-esophageal-cancer

There are also subtypes listed on this page to narrow down the type of cancer to match your dx.

Also, if you can take a few minutes and fill in some details of your journey so far, it will help others as they try to answer questions for you, it also helps others as they search through the data base to find someone like themselves. Confirming your email will allow you to receive updates and notices from the site when someone answers your questions or writes on your wall.

Thanks for being with us and let me know if I can help you find any information on the site. After you have an opportunity to look the site over and see what great things there are here, we encourage you to invite your friends, family or anyone you know that may be helped by the connections on WhatNext to join the site also.
