    Chin up, DT!
I HAD SSC on the base of my tongue. As part of the treatment workup, we discover ed that I have Stage III renal failure. That narrowed my treatment options somewhat The preferred chemo, cisplatin, would wipe out my kidneys so we went with erbitux (sp?) and radiation. I too had all my lower molars prophylactily (sp?) removed for the same reason as Greg. Yes, it hurt like hell and nothing short of general anesthesia would ease the pain. We toughed it out. The nausea associated with the radiation was bad enough, but the worst was yet to come. I'm telling you this for a "heads-up". The second degree burns (blistering) both inside my throat and outside on my neck were excruciating for weeks on end. The white salve (silver, something or other) really helped. Have you had a PEG installed yet? If not, do so NOW. Your body (and mind) need the nutrition for sustanence, healing and recovery. I went from 192 to 152. Overall (for me - everyone is different), the side effects were much worse than the actual treatments,
I am now cancer free, per PET scan and biopsy. You'll get there, too!
