@coco1101, you remember Dirk - the young guy with the long beard who died from lung cancer a few years ago? After RW died, his mom really took me under her wing since she knows what it is like to lose a son. (I can't remember if Dirk was also an only child, but he might have been.)

Anyway, she wrote an encouraging message to me yesterday, knowing how difficult Mother's Day, especially the first Mother's Day, would be. Bless her heart, she lost her mom a week ago, so she had a double-whammy this Mother's Day.

I didn't realize your Mom died around Mother's Day. That would be hard, too, no matter how many years ago. My dad died in February ... no holiday nearby ... but my stepdad that I adored died on December 23 or 24 ... I can't remember which right now. I know we didn't celebrate Christmas and had his funeral on 12/26. Christmas never rolls around that he's not more on our minds than typical.

Coco. I think we are in the same place mouth-wise. At this time my teeth just stubble. My jaw and facial bones were damaged by an abusive marriage. I had a dentist from hell who caused me to have an abscessed tooth and I had to have dental surgery. I was having my teeth removed as absolutely needed by a dental surgeon when I was diagnosed with cancer. I have had an esophagectomy so I am at risk to aspirate. The Dr.s will not do knee replacement surgery as long as there is infection in my mouth. I have wanted to keep what few teeth I have as long as possible as dentures or implants are out of reach financially. Once surgery is done I will be on a liquid diet. I haven't talked to my Dr. about it but I am thinking of a feeding tube after I have the surgery.
