Welcome to the site, although I am sorry you have to be here. I also was treated for rectal cancer, had two rounds of chemo, a temporary bag, and now have a j-pouch, which is a loop of the colon which learns to act as the "holding tank." Please feel free to ask any questions..Zubsha is correct, colorectal cancer is very treatable. There are folks here who were Stage 4 who are long term survivors. There are a lot of factors that go into those statistics, and you are an individual. I know your head is spinning right now, but take heart..this is NOT a death sentence. One suggestion....don't know if you have met with a surgeon yet, but try to find a colorectal oncology surgeon, rather than just a general surgeon. It will improve your odds on a "normal" reconstruction. Good luck! Folks here are pulling for you!
