    Annieg,

Each person responds to chemo differently. I compare it to childbirth. I had three kids and each experience was different and there was no way to predict how my body reacted to each one. The oncologists have great anti nausea medicine that they give with the chemo that lasts up to three days but you may need a prescription. They also give Benadryl during chemo to help with allergic reactions which will make you very sleepy as soon as it is given. You may ask for more to help you sleep during the ride home. I sympathize with you for having a long journey home. I was 25 minutes away and that seemed far to me at times especially during the winter storms. Talk to your medical team and explain your anxiety about having far to travel and what advise can they offer to help. Also you will need to have a medical facility near by in case you need one and will need copies of your medical records. I didn't but I was prepared. I didn't have radiation, but from what I have been told it is a walk in the park compared to chemo. It is just more draining because it is every day for 5 weeks or however long your oncologist prescribed it. All my best to you for a speedy recovery. As you may have read, tell your medical team everything. They are there to help you get through this with minimal disruption. Ask to talk to a dietician to help you with getting the right nutrients and drinks tons if water to help your liver flush out the toxins from chemo. The time dies go by faster than you think. I remember at 2 weeks wondering how I was every going to get through the next 3 months and now I am 6 weeks out of chemo thinking that went by fast. Take care of yourself. Rest and don't over do it.

You asked if you would get sick. That's hard to say, but I would let the treatment center know that you have a way to travel and that you have concerns. They will give you anti nausea meds to help with that. Many of us have the treatment and never get sick the first time. I wish you the best!
