I too have SCLC. I was diagnosed in October last year with stage IV or extensive lung cancer. I had the main mass in my right lung which they said was/is inoperative, spots on my bones, two broken ribs and spots on my liver. My oncoligist put me on the same chemo. All the bone spots disapeared, along with the spots on the liver and the mass in my lung shrank 2/3 and showed no activity.
Then we started discussing further treatments. We decided on PCI radiation to the brain. This was done just in case there may have been some teeny tiny spots of cancer that wasn't picked up on the MRI. Kind of like a preemptive strike. Afterwards during my scheduled PET scan they picked up 2 new spots on my liver and 2 on my hip bones.
They started me on Taxol chemo once a week for 3 weeks, off a week and back on for a total of 6 months. On the last CT scan it showed the spots on the liver had shrunk by almost 1/2. The bone spots didn't show up so we'll have to wait for the next PET scan, but I've had no pain associated with the bones.
It's a long journey with many happy moments and a few ah $&#T moments. I've tried to be positive throughout my battle but just like everyone else I've had my depressed moments too. I wish you the best and if you have any questions at all please ask. I may not have all the answers but someone on here will have. Jack
