my name is michelle and I live in Southern CA.
My Mom was recently diagnosed with Anal cancer. We are in the stage of just finding out. There is so much unanswered questions. My Mom lives is Easley, SC. She is seeing her doctor on Wednesday to find out where we go from her. I know they are doing an Urgent CT Scan to determine if the cancer has spread through her cells to other parts of her body. We are not sure what stage cancer and we are not sure her prognoses yet either..... I have so many questions and I'm full of fear and the unknown.... I appreciate you being on this website. I live in British Columbia, Canada and was diagnosed with Anal Cancer Stage I in early 2009. I am proof that we CAN overcome/beat some cancers!!!!

Hi LUBI; How are you managing?

I didn't exactly want chemotherapy but I decided to treat at all because of the development of a new drug(or drugs) which had a 95% ratio of patients surviving it and coming through the other side without cancer. Those sounded like great odds to me. That was 2002.

Do some research. See what is what. Get a different oncology opinion. Scour the net and medical libraries and the brains of people you might know to find answers.

Then make a decision.

Its a crap shoot. As long as you keep your eye on what you want, chose best odds to get it and go with it.

Hello Lubi. Just putting myself out there to let you know I am available if you have questions, need to vent or whatever. I went thru the treatment a year ago. I had the radiation and the two chemos (5fu and Mitomyacin). I am not on my whatsnext site that often but you can always email directly. In the meantime, just know you have a lot of us on here that can be here for you. So many people have great ideas and suggestion. Some will have their own opinions and some will have experiences that will not be what you will experience. But, at least we are all here to support. For me... it was just good to know that I was not going crazy with some of the emotion and physical things I was going through because others were here to tell me... "I went thru that too or, I felt that too and here is what I did". Take care of yourself. And...your English is fine (you spell better than me and I have lived here my whole life.. ha ha).

Hang in there, we do not always understand our doctor's decisions. If your doctor doesn't explain to your satisfaction why he is waiting.....then it is time for a new doctor. Call Cancer Treatment Center of America. They were such a help to me even though I did not get to go to their treatment centers because of my sucky insurance. But they did talk to me for hours and called me every few days just to see how I was doing emotionally. You will be in my prayers! Blessings and many hugs to you!

You don't want chemo, who does?
I was diagnosed on March, 2012 with Stage II anal cancer (62 yrs old). It was a shock, nobody in my family has ever had cancer.
I was treated with 28 rounds of radiation, 4 doses of Oxaliplatin, and Xeloda 500 pills on radiation days (Monday to Friday).
It wasn't easy, but it worked. I am cancer free and willing to go on living happily.
Talk to your onc for alternatives, (S)he knows what is best for you. Fight the good fight, never give up,
Be brave, be positive
