Kunert, read your experiences and saw you are having a chemo port put in.Assuming it is a chest port.Mine was put in as an out patient procedure.Everyone tolerates it differently.I experienced some neck pain for several days and was put on Tylenol with Codiene.T his discomfort did not last long. There was a little itchiness as it healed and you will find out the car seat belt sometimes lays across the area. This is definitely the way to go when having chemo.I recommend purchasing some over the counter Lidocaine cream at the pharmacy and placing this on the port area about one hour before they access the port.T his works really well to deaden the area and you barely feel the needle stick. Some women don't need anything, but I did.Cover it with Seran wrap the first time then the infusion center should have shields you can use.A good fluid intake is important before, and after your treatment. The anti nausea meds work very well for most people.Take the oral meds as directed after treatment.Remember to take anti nausea meds, before you actually feel nauseated.Lack of appetite is a form of nausea and helped me to eat The steroids they give you with chemo,if they do give them to you, will also give you an appetite. Most of your side effects will take place three or four days post chemo treatment.Take care, talk anytime.

Hello and welcome, we are glad you found us.Please feel free to join in the conversations. Here is a link to our cancer dx page for your type of cancer. Take a look at it to get you started on some information. You will notice at the bottom of that page 4 of our active users who have had that journey already, you may wish to contact them for their experience and wisdom. Also, I encourage you to go to the questions page now by clicking on the questions tab at the top of the page and post what is the most pressing issue you have right now. This will introduce you to the community and get you started on the help you need right now.

There are also subtypes listed on this page to narrow down the type of cancer to match your dx.

Also, if you can take a few minutes and fill in some details of your journey so far, it will help others as they try to answer questions for you, it also helps others as they search through the data base to find someone like themselves. Confirming your email will allow you to receive updates and notices from the site when someone answers your questions or writes on your wall.

Thanks for being with us and let me know if I can help you find any information on the site.
