Hi there Mystimom, welcome to the site. I have not personally experienced resistance to the chemo drugs. I was diagnosed with later stage ovarian cancer and have been in remission since finishing my chemo on March 4 th , 2014. It is not unusual though for some women to be what is called “ platinum resistant”. This means that after surgery and reaching optimal debulking, meaning all visable signs of disease were successfully removed and platinum chemo treatments have ended ,the cancer returns within a three to six month time frame, usually based on a CT scan and symptoms experienced by the survivor. There are around thirty different types of ovarian cancer so some of this resistance may depend on the type of ovarian cancer an individual has along with yet unknown reasons. Since you said you have colorectal cancer with metastasis to the ovaries , isn’t it still considered colon cancer, not ovarian cancer? If my ovarian cancer metastasizes to my breasts, it would still be considered ovarian cancer with metastasis to the breast, not breast cancer. I could however develop breast cancer that has absolutely nothing to do with the ovarian cancer based on tumor testing.

I am so sorry for your diagnosis. It's not uncommon for colon cancer to metastasize to the ovaries - due to how close they are to the colon. Because you are KRAS mutation positive, some chemotherapy drugs don't work as well. I would recommend that you get a second opinion from Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York - they treat many colorectal patients with mutations and may be the best option for your situation. I am a Stage IV rectal cancer survivor so I know what you are experiencing. Any questions, please ask.

There are also subtypes listed on this page to narrow down the type of cancer to match your dx. Also, if you can take a few minutes and fill in some details of your journey so far, it will help others as they try to answer questions for you, it also helps others as they search through the database to find someone like themselves. Confirming your email will allow you to receive updates and notices from the site when someone answers your questions or writes on your wall.
