I'm one of those who live with cancer as a chronic disease. And what it means is that there is no cure for the Metastatic Prostate Cancer that I have. There are treatments which may keep the cancer stable or growing slowly for different lengths of time for different patients. I for example am on my 8th different treatment regime (nothing seems to work very long for me) while a friend of mine is going on 30 years on the same treatment. Many who are "cured" of prostate cancer were like me cancer free after surgery or radiation and have not had it return. If Prostate Cancer metastasizes, then it becomes a chronic disease.

I'm not sure just how many other cancers are treated as chronic. But it is both wonderful and with a bit of envy that I read of the survivors who can say "I'm cancer free" even if it's not permanent. For the last 3 years the longest time I've had between Doctor visits has been 4 weeks (currently on a 3 week chemo cycle) and it begins to wear a person down just a bit. With that said I'm anxious and eager to go back for chemo next week. Talk about a paradox.

Probably much more than you were looking for but I think you've got the idea.

Keep it positive and smile :")

Hello and welcome, we are glad you found us. Please feel free to join in the conversations. Here is a link to our cancer dx page for your type of cancer. Take a look at it to get you started on some information. You will notice at the bottom of that page 4 of our active users who have had that journey already, you may wish to contact them for their experience and wisdom. Also, I encourage you to go to the questions page now by clicking on the questions tab at the top of the page and post what is the most pressing issue you have right now. This will introduce you to the community and get you started on the help you need right now.

    https://www.whatnext.com/conditions/cancer/head-neck-throat-cancer

There are also subtypes listed on this page to narrow down the type of cancer to match your dx.

Also, if you can take a few minutes and fill in some details of your journey so far, it will help others as they try to answer questions for you, it also helps others as they search through the data base to find someone like themselves. Confirming your email will allow you to receive updates and notices from the site when someone answers your questions or writes on your wall.

Thanks for being with us and let me know if I can help you find any information on the site. After you have an opportunity to look the site over and see what great things there are here, we encourage you to invite your friends, family or anyone you know that may be helped by the connections on WhatNext to join the site also. Just click this link to invite them to join. http://www.whatnext.com/recruit-a-friend

If you didn't feel this way you wouldn't be normal. I'm 68 and was diagnosed 5 months ago. BUT I remember my mom getting breast cancer in 1965 and it's still hurts. Try and help in to get all the medical facts AND all the Nutritional Facts. You can check my profile page here for some ideas along those lines.
Facts help us make a measured and common sense decision as to how to go forward. Follow your Docs ideas but also look around.....
