The shot the next day is to protect your bones. I had to do that, and then on weeks that I didn't have chemo, I had to go in for blood tests. It seems I was always at the chemo place. And when I needed extra fluids to help with dyhydration, I had to go back to the office for bags of fluids too. That's why a port is valuable for chemo. I had the chemo put in, blood drawn and the fluids put in that way. And it's only the size of a quarter under the skin, so it's really not a big deal.
