Donya,
I am a 12 year survivor of metastatic kidney cancer, having had a large tumor and the kidney removed, followed by high dose interleukin treatment for the lung met. You are considered to be quite young to have kidney cancer, and while that will be a bonus while you have treatment, you need to be certain that you are not at additional risk for return.
I cannot tell by the way the 'cancerous' lung is described if this is metastatic kidney cancer gone to the lung, or if there is a new primary. Each would require treatment---but different treatment. I am happy to talk about my own lung mets and how they were handled. You can write through this forum or through my blog at www.peggyRCC.com Sending you my best.0December 2016 -
HI DonyaFraley,
Please take a deep breath ... and prepare to fight!
A lung cancer diagnosis is definitely scary, but you can do this! More and more of us are coming out ahead of the cancer. We will be praying you do too!
This is a good place for you to come to vent, talk, ask questions, whatever. We are glad you found us!0August 2016 -
Welcome to the site Donya. You will find a lot of info here - plenty of knowledgeable people who will be able to answer just about any question you have. I know when I was going thru treatment I would forget to ask certain things when I saw the doctor. Ask those questions here. You haven't told us anything about your cancer other than its location. When were you diagnosed, what type of tumor is it and where have you been staged? Now I will say to you what I say to everyone newly diagnosed - your best option for the most successful treatment will always be a large teaching hospital associated with a major university such as UNLV. There you will find a very knowledgeable team of specialists who have worked together extensively and see more cancers in a single year than most physicians see in their lifetime, plus the latest treatment techniques. This is your life we're talking about. Don't accept anything less than the absolute best doctors and treatments. Don't cheat yourself. This is the time when you have to be totally selfish. Don't make excuses to limit your chances. I drove three hours to get to my treatments and still make that drive for my checkups and it was well worth it. I'll be looking for more posts from you. Best of luck on your journey.0August 2016
