Hello shadow, I also had robotic surgery in Aug 2012. ED was an issue and my urologist (also my surgeon) prescribed Cialis. This did help. He also told me before surgery erections would never be exactly the same as before since the prostate is not there to help. However I have been exercising almost daily and have noticed the exercise does help. I still use Cialis from time to time but I do not totally depend on it any longer. 18 months as you were told seems a little fast for recovery. Of course each guy is different in their recovery time.
