I was 58 when I was diagnosed with stage III or IV bladder cancer; one doctor said IV and one said III. My surgeon Dr. Lighfoot did a great job - I will always be grateful to her for saving my life. In the beginning, when people told me I would "become friends: with my "appliance" I thought they were nuts; I wouldn't say I'm friends with my bag, but it beats the alternative. (I don't call the urostomy bag an appliance, after all it's not a toaster or fridge :) ) but it has gotten easier each week to live with it. Very few problems with leakage - many problems at first with healing and leakage. Don't be too hard on yourself - give yourself plenty of time to get use to it and best wishes for a full recovery.
