    Hi janinebrau,
Welcome to WhatNext. Sorry you are having to go through this, but you have come to the right place for some help and support. I also have non-small cell lung cancer, stage IV, and am in remission presently. I was diagnosed 3 years ago, had a lobectomy and chemotherapy. It has been a rough road, but I came through it and doing pretty well now. I hope your mother will get through it also. Just try to take one step at a time and try to stay positive.

I am also my mother's caregiver. She is 99 years old and living in her own home alone. Yes, being a caregiver is also a challenge. You have to stay positive, look for the humor in everyday life, and enjoy the time you have with them. Sometimes it is very frustrating and sometimes it is funny, and sometimes it is scary and sad. My husband and I just take each day as it comes and do the best we can for Mom. We did the same for my father before his death nine years ago and I promised him that I would take care of Mom to the best of my ability. Just remember that stress takes a lot of energy out of you, so save some energy for when you really need it, like during a crisis.

Best wishes to you and your mother.
