Tribefan215, you have certainly been through hell--not the least of it being diagnosed as a Stage IV when you started out as a Stage I! It makes me furious when I hear stories like yours (and my own--I should have been diagnosed at Stage I, but the doctor didn't do a D&C until 2 years after my first symptoms, and by then I was stage IIB--still should have been curable, but the gyn oncologist who did my hysterectomy didn't do any kind of a scan to see if it had spread, and the 19 lymph nodes he removed were all OK, so I had no chemo and just a few localized brachytherapy treatments. 8 mths later, when he finally ordered a PET/CT, I had metastases all over my abdomen). I often wonder at the lack of care doctors give. Now mine will always recur, and it's only a matter of time until chemo doesn't work anymore (or I can't stand to have any more). On a brighter note, I know a woman who was told nothing more could be done for her (after multiple surgeries/chemo, etc.), but another doctor prescribed some kind of pill (probably a hormone) that is at least preventing her cancer from getting worse, and she's still alive and feeling good most of the time after 12 years.

Hi TribeFan. Welcome to What Next. There are lots of great people here. I'm also in Ohio -- down in Columbus. I notice that you are have some question as to where to treat. Although I'm not treating at The James @ OSU, they have a remarkable reputation. I'm treating at Riverside Hosp in Columbus because that's where my cancer was found during a hernia repair. Sat in the oncologist's office, swearing up and down I was getting a 2nd opinion at the James. Then I met Dr Bell. Nope, didn't need a 2nd opinion. I was good. The big thing is finding a doc you trust. I made my decision before I even knew that Dr Bell is the head of oncology @ Riverside. There are a bunch of us w/a similar diagnosis who are quite vocal. Please give a yell if any of us can help!

I, too, am living with cancer as a chronic illness and was diagnosed about 3 yrs ago. Recently had 3rd recurrence and am doing chemo again! I did not have external radiation--only brachytherapy (internal radiation) after my hysterectomy. Then 3 series of chemo (on my third series now) and debulking surgery for metastisis last year. What is your adjuvant therapy? They can do so much to keep us alive now--one of my drs gave me 3-12 mths to live about 2-1/2 yrs ago, but the one I go to now said the longest he's had someone last with recurrent endometrial cancer is 12 yrs--so far (she's still alive). I keep hoping they'll come up with a cure soon. I go to Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL, and they are researching the kinds of treatments that target individual people's cancers. Unfortunately, they don't have this available yet for our kind. How are you holding up?

Hello Tribefan, I hope you are enjoying some peace on the 4th of July; my neighbors are letting off those big bombs and every time I jump! You are so young to have stage IV. I see you were diagnosed three years ago....I imagine you had a hysterectomy...May I ask what your symptoms were? I am concerned about my sisters who are 8 and 10 years older than myself. They are past menopause on occasion they say they spot so of course I get nervous. I am not sure what Stage IV means. If you would not mind educating me I would really appreciate it.
