My dad was dx'ed with prostate cancer 6 yrs ago, for past 2 yrs has been receiving lupron shots, a recent bone scan showed it has gone to his bones now but they are small.

dr had recommended an iv treatment which my dad declined. he is 72 1/2 now. would like to hear more positive stories of men his age with good outcomes

Just checked out the info on xgeva again and there have been clinical trials which show that it slows down the growth of tumors in the bone. So I'm glad I've been getting it since they found my lesions.

Hi Poliana, I just seen your post, you put it in an update post and it didn't show on my page. You have to post on the page of the person you are talking to for them to see it. Thanks for sharing your Dad's experience.

My father went through Prostate cancer treatments for 13 years. At the end it progressed and spread to his pelvid, bladder and lungs. However, he never would take the drugs that he was supposed to be taking, so it just progressed unchecked.

By the way noted Ross's post - I have been on Zoladex and Xgeva since the bone metastases were discovered. I was told that one of the side effects of low testosterone (the reason for Zoladex or Lupron) is osteoporosis which is why they gave me Xgeva. There is some evidence that would suggest that Xgeva also slows down the development of bone lesions but they haven't done all the testing to be able to claim that or to prescribe it for only that reason.

Just was reading about your father's journey with PC. Regarding your question about those with bone metastatis, my onologist and oncologist together put me on Xgeva about 4 months ago. I have not been diagnosed with any bone cancer, but they are seemingly using Xgeva(used to treat bone cancer patients to add bone strength) as a peventive aid.
I have been on both Lupron and Casadex (bicalutemide) for 2 1/2 years. My last PSA was .008 and they tell me that I have "no active cancer at this time" One side effect of the hormones are hot flashes and I take a prescription to help control them.
I am not sure how much this info helps but you can read my story for more detail. And I just wanted to let you know that there are men traveling this PC journey and we try to help others who reach out for support. Best wishes to your father and you as you go forward with his treatments.
