    Hi Stegalman,

I am sorry you're faced with this diagnosis. Thought I would say hey as I'm in North Fort Myers which makes us extended neighbors. If you need resource information for our local area or just want to "talk about it" feel free to drop me a note.

I was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer in July 2012, after a hemicolectomy. I just finished my first 12-round cycle of chemotherapy with a five-round cycle of radiation therapy thrown in and I'm awaiting the results of scan to see how things are going.

If you're looking for a surgeon in our area, you might want to give Dr. Jeffery Neal at the Colorectal Institute in Fort Myers, with satellite offices in Cape Coral and Bonita Springs, a try. He did my hemicolectomy and it has worked out very well for me. I won't say I don't have bowel problems but it has worked at as well as could be expected by all accounts and it is expected to improve as my colon get increasingly accustomed to working without the 30 inches Dr. Neale removed.

As I said if you need information regarding resources in our area or just want to chat, drop me a note on here and I reply back.

    Good luck and stay strong.
    Rick

wow,Iknow how you feel,my colorectal cancer was diagnosed June of 2012,immediate surgury was necessary, due to hemmorhaging in the abdominal cavity...so I had few choices,,,but if surgury is necessary in your case,,,I would carefully chose a colorectal surgeon,,as someone else suggested...I did have complications from surgury but am now fine,,,the worst part is anxiety,,,,,,try to stay,,,,on the sunny side
