Hi. I have just been told that I must have a radical bilateral neck dissection following a thyroidectomy 2 months ago in which the surgeon misdiagnosed my case and Sloan Kettering picked up on it. What was it like? Do you have big scars? Why are u stage Il if it metastasized from the thyroid? I thought that was stage 4a?
Thanks for any help u can offer. Surgery is soon.

What has your doctor told you? It sounds like you need to have a long talk with your doctor or find a doctor who is more willing to share information. Even if there are no signs of cancer, you need to develop a good relationship with your doctor. You need to stay on top of screenings and your TSH levels. It took until my fourth endo until I was comfortable, but now I know we work as a team. He shares information and is not offended when I remind him of things that need to be done. Remember- MOST ENDOCRINOLOGIST ARE NOT PRIMARILY CANCER DOCTORS!
